Wow after listening to classical, it's definitely the everything I've read about. I tried it hooked into the SFD and it's got hair-raisingly big sound. Aptly, I decided to listen to Lady Gaga's Hair biggrin.gif But seriously, I'm liking most of my live albums on this system. I think with this amp, it's captured extra details I might've missed on the O2/KGSS.

Yup, they sound killer with classical.  Jazz and vocal are also other genres that you need try with the Orpheus.

The SDS-XLR is also in the background.  Such a pristine condition though.  Wish mine is this minty.

Heard 2 HE-90's today......

They were bloody fantastic, however, on a bloody fantastic system, I think HD 800 does get 80% there..... But that 20% is a massive difference... Truly, truly wonderful.

HE-90...... Wow.

Glad u had a chance to listen to one.  I once compared my Orpheus system vs. Gilmore Ref Balanced + HD800 w/ APS V3 balanced, and your 20% assessment is probably about right.

I was at the same meet as Hennyo.  I loved the open, clear, natural treble of the Orpheus.  I think it's hard to say the LCD-2 is not somewhat dark sounding in comparison.  However, after doing several A\B comparisons, I'm sure I would definitely prefer to listen to music with my system.  (And that was with the stock LCD-2.2 cable - I just received a balanced Stefan Audio Art Endorphin cable yesterday and it's quite a big step up in sound.)

While quite musical compared to most headphone systems, the Orpheus just doesn't have enough slam, bass, and excitement that I prefer - even when listening to lighter music.

To be fair, the owner hasn't done any tweeking.  The tubes are still the original tubes that came with the amp.  eek.gif  So I have no idea if they are in need of replacement or if it would benefit from tube rolling like every tube amp I've ever heard does.  BTW, what type of tubes does the HEV-90 use - I couldn't read any markings on them.

I have no idea how the Orpheus compares to my Jades, as I haven't heard them in a couple of years.  Someday I hope to get another electrostatic amp.

I heard the Orpheus last summer with the WES amp. It was marvelous. I wish I had the opportunity to spend more time with them.

What music did you listen to? Just curious.

Thanks.

Are there any STAX models which have a similar euphoric sonic presentation to that of the HE90 and HE60?  I have listend to the 009 and the HE90 and came away thinking the 009 had more in detail and accuracy but not the same magic sound as the HE90.  It could be the HEV 90 is what supplies the magic with its tubes but it would be nice to find an alternative to the Orpheus which accessible to more owners.

007s. Sweeter than the 009s but not quite as detailed. I actually prefer them.

The MK I or MK II?  I'm guessing the MK I 007 is the sweeter sounding of the two.

To my ears, that is correct.

How many HE60's were made and how much did it cost?  Just curious.  I've heard that one.

p.s. How much does the K1000 cost?

Thx.
