drivers matter as much, if not more than anything else here - especially here. monster should also be changing the cable too.
Oh no, misunderstood me. I meant that they only changed the driver, as in the cost of materials shouldn't have a jump up by $150 dramatically.

Well, if the product/review pics are anything to go by, the strain reliefs, plug, and nozzle have all been changed as well...along with the addition of a cord slider and upgraded eartips...but yeah, the price premium still seems a little high to me.

i guess high price shouldn't be a problem here... headfiers pay through the nose for exotic brands. i think the price that people decry here is because it is monster. if it was a different price, people might already be jumping on the bandwagon declaring it another possible giant killer or 'best dynamic' earphone.

I owned the original Turbines a while ago so the sound comparison would be from memory. Currently using Klipsch S4i and a pair of Nuforce NE7ms.

apart from the UE5EB, those are the ugliest earphones I have ever seen!! the gold is so tasteless its not funny IMO, maybe something to make it look worth the money to prospective buyers with less than sound quality on their minds??? at $300 you can probably do a LOT better. now of course I have not heard them, but that price puts them in the league of top shelf universals and my ears tell me that they could double the SQ of the first turbine and still come up short of other IEMs in that price bracket. somehow I think they will not even do that.

Any reviews on these yet? I've heard some cooing from the media flaks, but I'd rather read a head-to-head from someone here against other phones in its price bracket.

For what it's worth...Cnet has their review of the Pros published

Monster Turbine Pro In-Ear Speakers (gold) Headphone reviews - CNET Reviews

Wish they compared more with the original Turbines. Seems in general they enjoyed the upgraded sound but the deterring factor was price. They would rather have seen a mic at that price level. They are stating a $299 price, when these are already being sold at $249.

Hmmmm, they mention "Lifetime Warranty"
Thanks for the link.

I'm surprised at how unhelpful it is though. Is it better, worse, different from, other phones with a similar sound profile? Or within it's price class?

Besides, some of us are listening to more expensive phones without mics. Why? Sound quality. (I doubt it's styling; my SE530s are cool, but not $300 of cool.)

Just off the top if my head, I know they've reviewed the Klipsch Custom 3 and the Westone UM2. No one thought to get those out of their desks and listen to them side to side?.

Ah, well. At some point, someone will.

Lifetime warranty for manufacturing defects and if you have caused damage to the pro's, Monster will do a one time replacement.
yeah, seems a pretty good guarantee especially coming from the turbine which has had so many cable-related problems. i hope monster have made true steps in making a much better product for the consumer.

Judging from the FR chart only, I'd prefer the non-Pro version.
