Monster Turbine Pro - Page 14

Agree it wasn't ready for prime time, and that the next iteration will hopefully leave some of those early hiccups in the dust. I use mine in very limited ways, but when I do, I find it to be an excellent DAP, especially with certain genres of music, with the caveat that it really works much better with some of my phones than others. Leaving now to read that MTP Gold review.

Update:
Nice review, has me looking forward to hearing mine. Since I got an open box special, I am wondering how much of the pack-in stuff I will get. I never cared much for the Turbine tips, so even if it came without tips, I have Complys and hybrids waiting in the wings. Along with an entire back of 20-30 various and sundry pair of silicones made for large canal phones.

Any burn-in advice (might have missed it in my quick read)?

Sweet review. I just decided to return my S4s (which I enjoyed a lot and would be happy to stay with now that they have really burned in--stupid upgraditis!) and get a pair of the monster turbine pro coppers for $224. I could have gone with the used golds, but I like the warranty, it makes me feel better--this'll be my main pair of earphones. Plus, it sounds like the coppers' tuning and treble extention will address some of the quite minor issues with the golds. We'll see.

It seems like dynamic drivers are really coming into their own. I look forward to seeing more high end dynamics on the market.

shigzeo, nice review as always. Interesting how far Monster has come in about 15 months with the Turbine family. I now listen mainly to my Pros (Golds) or IE8s, but am interested in learning if the Coppers really are that different. Given the performance of the Golds, I can't imagine the changes are that significant, but I do like neutral headphones and IEMs.

Full Review: Monster Turbine Pro Gold earphone: Let's par-tay

Okay lads and lasses - my impressions are as follows:

The Turbine Pro is in every way the Turbine's superior. Firstly, there is more control across the spectrum: bass and treble are more tightly reigned and mids are smoother. This headphone fits any and every type of music better perhaps than any dynamic earphone out there and treading very closely to phones like the CK10 in terms of adaptability.

Make no mistake though, it is bass-geared, but it is very controlled. Also, depending on what tips you use with it, it changes ALOT. It can be bass heavy, even stephen, or airy depending on what you wear and how far you insert it.

The make is much better than the original Turbine and the cable isn't prone to break down from sweat and body oils. I'm sure it could be destroyed, but it won't do it lightly. The only physical problems are: y split top stress relief is very sudden and the plug's relief is seemed and could break.

However, those two scenarios I expect as much as I expect to be hit by lightning (not really, but they are well made). There are enough throw-ins and ear pieces to make it worth its price (even at 300$). The sound is good enough and build enough for that price range - this certainly beats most 'professional' earphones at that price - it will certainly outlive them.

As for dynamics and stage, pretty damn good, but not open sounding like the IE8, FX500 or the super-special FAD 1601. It is good though and casts images and separation very well.

This is definitely an upgrade to the Turbine and worth the price of admission.

nice review shigzeo..always a nice read..those pics make them look really shiny lol

I actually think a few were overexposed, but they are very shiny earphones - something I think a few people might take issue with. Gold colour hanging out of ears is something else!

Your picture of bending the MTP cables really made me cringe
Btw, how come the Chinese words 中央線 suddenly showed in the middle of the review?
I don't like bending cables like that, but have to show what the effect of the fender and cable conjunction is. Overall, the MTP is pretty good.

中央線 is a great song by THE BOOM, a Japanese folk band who made an amazing song: 島国 which the Brazilian team adopted for world cup low some years ago!

Yeah, me as well. I'm glad the MTP is made of sterner stuff than the MTdilattante (well, if there's mt-pro are professional, then the others are mt-dilattantes, right? MT-minorleague? Okay, nevermind...)

I hope the coppers are a little less outre, but hey, it's the sound that matters mostly, right? Otherwise, there'd be 50 threads for the HeartBeats by Lady Gaga.

Actually, I think the Lady Gaga are probably selling pretty well. Monster have consistently hit great price points for pretty high-quality gear - certainly more so than a lot of their competition. I have no idea if the Gaga sound good or not, but they seem to be made pretty well which is of course, a great thing.
