Personally, I thought q-jays pair very nicely with AMP3. There's very little hiss with this combo and sound is awesome, especially the bass and mids. I thought any drums sounded amazing and also pianos sound superb through the amped q-jays.

Oh well, I need to stop sidegrading anyways and save up for some JH-13s to just end this madness.
you know there's the jh16 now....

And as a firefox user since 1.0, I have been VERY disappointed with the versions post 3.0, they are just so buggy. I'm really tempted to go back to 2.0 and be able to use my real player downloader again.

Good to know. The only phones that don't hiss for me are on-ear phones, Grado SR-80s and Ksc35s. Looking forward to trying the MTP Gold IEMs for the same reason.

W3 is also on the way. All I have now is the W2, RE0, TF10. Eventually, when everything gets here I want to keep one, maybe 2 pair only, I really don't need that many expensive headphones.
Know the feeling (going on four years). My guess is that if you get a good fit (no sibilance), you will keep the W3s (or W2s) and RE0, one of each flavor, soi to speak. But the MTPs might surprise you based on some early comments by Headphoneaddict and Shigzeo, who are both doing reviews and will post them shortly. Just a hunch.

I haven't followed the UE18/JH-16 threads lately for my own good. There's no chance I'll be buying new, probably only used ones and having them reshelled, so I doubt I'll snatch a JH-16 anytime soon. Not only that, since my ears are still growing, I'd be best to wait a few more years before jumping into customs.
Who knows, maybe by then there'll be a $200 universal that's on par with the top customs of today.
As for FF, I haven't had a problem with it on any decent computer, only old windows ones. On those I prefer to use Chrome. Even on new ones, Chrome is looking pretty good... I would just miss the spell check in FF3.

My RE0 is stored away somewhere(because I have been using the TF10 and W2 lately) and I haven't listened to them for a good couple months, but from memory the W2 and the RE0 shares quite a bit, the W2 might have more bass ans soundstage but I am not really sure on that... We'll see, and I'm not sure about wearing the Turbine Pro in public. There is a good reason(besides it being unbalanced) that I don't own a Grado.

Didn't suggest you get Grados. Unbalanced? You mean they don't sit on your head properly? I guess after owning the SR80s for 10 years, with the bowl pads and the tape mod they sound very good to me. Each to his own, right?

That being the case (your points above), not sure what you will keep.

As for the MTP Gold in public, I had the original MTs and you can barely see them, so not sure what that's got to do with anything.

nevermind, I seem to remember somebody saying the Grados have piercing highs and aren't the most balanced phone. Just went to look at the freq graph and they look fine. But I was talking about how blingy the Turbine and how ugly(IMHO) that the Grados are.

Tsarn - the Monster hisses with the AMP3 and there is bass resolution loss, but the hiss isn't as bad as a lot of other earphones I own. I can almost listen to the two in combination.

The AMP3 Pro2 does lose a lot of bass resolution though. Slapping on resistance brought some clarity (got a bit muddy compared to other sources) and bass resolution and the hiss is negligible.

This is why I say over and over that I don't think the AMP3 is ready for production. It is good (can actually drive a number of headphones pretty well) with over 100Ω headphones, but less than it and you face resolution loss and hiss.

The Monster is probably 16Ω. It hisses much less than most of my other iems. It is pretty quiet out of The Einar Sound VC-01i home amp I have.

Thanks. If I don't like it, I can sell or return it. Interested to hear it.

What is the deal with all the amp3 issues? I thought it was supposed to be a real high end payer but people talking about hiss issues, bass resolution problems etc, it doesn't sound like a good solution for an audiophile.

Speaking strictly of the hiss issue, check the Portable Source forums for more info. The Amp3 is a high-end DAP to many owners (it's also an amp and a preamp, as it turns out), mostly when matched with the right phones. It has hiss issues (plus some interesting and sometimes frustrating quirks), but it (and the quirks) bothers some much more than others. That's the short of it. I am more tolerant of the hiss, for example, than Shigzeo. It's all there in the Portable Source forum.

At this point, the Amp3 has settled in as most owners have accepted it for what it is, which is not a "mainstream" box for everyone.

Back to the MTP Gold.

It is a very decent player with some earphones, but it has problems with anything under 100Ω. People may like the sound of their earphones with it with less, but the machine sounds best when able to drive at full resolution, not strangled by headphones. As a pre-amp, it is great, or when driving headphones of pretty high Ω. Hiss is bad, but bass roll off and channel narrowing make it a reminiscent of a few DPA's I have used. It has a great circuit which holds charge for a long time, and can put a pretty good signal into say: DT880 and DJ1Pro.

I think HiSound rushed it. If they had spent the rest of the time developing what they had wanted to, it would be nearly perfect. I still don't think they understand why I contest its bass roll off. They argue with me that bass roll off is fine, when in fact, it makes no sense as the player does not roll off after 100Ω - meaning that if it is good with roll off, it is rubbish when it doesn't?

I expect the next version to be very good, but it will probably still not be able to handle low Ω headphones very well - I think they don't really understand yet what I am talking about.

Anyway, I will be trying it in balanced setups soon, one for each channel.

My Turbine Pro Gold review is done, but it is 2am and I won't paraphrase it yet. It is up at my blog.
