That may be a good suggestion (tapering them). The second smallest one fits me great (for most universal-fits, whatever the medium-sized tips would be are usually the ones that work for me).

The foam SuperTips are also very dome-shaped (at least the pre-production ones I've got), but they're foam (around silicone), so I imagine would work better for those who have problems with the gel-filled ones.

I've had a pre-production Beats Studio for a pretty long time now, and the cable has held up for me--it's safe to say, then, that your buddy is probably a lot rougher on his headphones than I am. That said, only time will tell, but the cable on the Turbine Pro seems durable (I have the Copper Edition here, not the Gold, though I think the cable is the same on both).

No need for a LOL - this is a thread about a monster product, not a 'bash monster thread'. The cable is microphonic, but pretty solid. I imagine with usual good treatment, it should hold up very well.

I understand though that people who go through 8 cables wind them up in a pocket or bag and throw them around. The beats aren't made that poorly. The friend must treat them really poorly.

Several questions for owners of MT pros!

I wanted to ask Dobber65, Jude, Shigzeo and other who have the turbine pro about how prominent male and female vocals are. Are they forward or a bit recessed?

Maybe I'll give an example. This is from Al-Andaluz Project. There is a female singer with several melodic instruments and percussion.

When I listen on my Klipsch Custom 2s, her voice is the most prominent and it is a bit more forward than the other instruments. I think that is how it was meant to sound (not subjectively, I mean it's sorta clear that they miked it that way--she's standing a little ahead of everyone else as the vocalist).

On my not yet fully burned in pair of S4's (which I am probably sticking a little too far in my ears--darkening the sound), the vocalist isn't as prominent, her voice is softer--bringing her in line with everyone else so she sounds recessed compared to the other earphone.

How do the Monster Turbine Pros handle this?
Or the Turbine originals?

Next question!
What is Monster's customer service like? The Search Never Ends mentioned that they ignored his emails. They haven't gotten back to me about a warranty question yet, either (although I'll give them another day or so). Klipsch, for example, got back to me right away and they've been helpful on the phone as well. Let me know your experience, please.

Okay, this is for everyone (and it's a little silly): What's the usual way to take care of one's cables/earphones? I usually gently wrap mine around the my ipod and put it in a pocket of whatever man-purse I happen to be carrying. Do you take it off the DAP and gently wind it around itself and put it in the case it came with? Seriously, what's the best way to give earphones/cords a long life when travelling with them every day?

if you nitpicky: portable case...
semi picky: take them off DAP before folding them away
dont care: strangle it aroudn the DAP

You shouldn't wind up an earphone (at any price) around a portable DAP. No earphone and no dap. It is a recipe for destruction. Firstly, the headphone jack can wiggle and bang against objects in you purse, causing internal damage to the DAP. Secondly, it can drastically shorten the lifespan of a pair of earphones. Thirdly, if you leave the two together and both go missing, bye bye to both investments.

I keep all my earphones in a case. It is too much money to do otherwise. If the earphones don't have a case, it is still best to detach them rather than even gently wrapping them around your player. As price rises, this will become even more important.

Small phones can fit in an Altoids tin. Big ones can fit in those hard eyeglass cases you can get at any drugstore--$3, tops.

Kunlun, I haven't noticed any issue with the presentation of male or female vocals on the Pros, which mean they have a very neutral midrange. Some of this is based on the the recording mix of course, but on my acoustic and folk music, everything comes across very natural and smooth. The Pros are a bit more pronounced in the midrange than the originals, but that actually is an improvement in sound to me, with more detail and clarity without a mid-emphasis for which Shures are known.

I had one issue where I needed customer service last year with Monster. It was handled by phone and mail, and they were prompt, courteous, and I was pleased. Can't say what it would be like a year later, but I was impressed last year. Maybe a phone call would work instead of email.

Hope these help.

Thank you, Dobber, I appreciate it.

Looks like the Copper Mt pro is now $250 on Amazon.com
and the Gold is $200.

Is there a better deal anywhere else that still keeps the warranty?

How I wind earphone cables on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

That's how I do it. I can't say it's the right way to do it, only that I don't remember the last time I broke a cable on any of my IEMs. My co-worker shot that with my iPhone--and I still can't believe I (a) recorded a video of me winding earphone cables for storage, and (b) posted it. Hope it's helpful to at least Kunlun.

i think any way you wrap it is fine as long as it ends up in a case when you are done.

i do a similar way except every second loop is backwards(i know that doesnt make much sense..but most people call it the over under method when wrapping cables) to prevent tangling.

Hey guys, just wondering here if anyone has gotten the chance to listen to the monster Jamz or lil' jamz? I'm somewhat interested in these as I could just go and buy them at the store; I'm weary about shipping to my college. They also seem very very durable.

That's awesome, it's completely cool that you did that and posted it.

By the time you actually buy a set of earphones, the cycle will have completed itself and you'll find yourself buying a pair of S4's or whatever earphone you were first looking at when you started posting here.
