Use a ScotchBrite/3M Clothes lint Removing Roller Very Sparingly - It reduces the life of leather and especially Velour pads by pulling away more than just the dust.
After Struggling for a year with Headphone Stands, washing pads every month(Only Velour, mind you.) and still finding hair, dust, and anonymous bits of detritus on the pads, I gave up and bought a nice big box for all of them. Now I just keep them covered in Pouches made of Cotton, with the Cable wrapped with a Velcro Strap, all together in the box, and I am so much Happier.
Use that nice box the folks at Sennheiser were so kind to Provide. Seriously.

When the HD 800 is not on my head it is ALWAYS* in it's box. I treat it with extreme care. BTW, the pads are micro fiber fabric, not velour.

the fabric like structure on the pads is what worries me. the roller has the tendency to pull away some of the fibers that make the material so soft and comfy. i'm just not sure about doing it too often, such as every week or so.
