Whiplash Audio - Page 23

Finally got the correct cable. I can't help but smile when I look at it fully integrated with my portable system.

Big round of applause to Craig and his TWAG V3 cable.

I purchased a cable for my earphones from Whiplash back in August, 2014. It was a small one (18 inch), just enough for using with my DAP which I wear on my neck. It arrived with an absolutely useless wooden puck on the wire which was choking me clinging right to my Adam's apple, so I had to cut it down with a fret-saw. Soon afterwards I discovered that the wire often drops out of the earphones cause the contacts of the cable don't fit tight in the earphones although I told the model of my earphones before the purchase. Finally, within 3 months or so, the sound from one of the channels disappeared. I contacted Craig and he replied that I violated guarantee service conditions, yet he will fix it for free. What a nice man I thought! So I sent it back and received a new wire in February with a choker issue fixed and both chanels sounding yet the contacts were still constantly dropping out. I contacted Craig again and he asked me to provide photos of the earphones and then offered to send them back again. For a moment, shipping from St.P. to NY costs 30 USD, takes 1 month and it was the second time I paid it myself, so I asked him if I maybe should put my earphones into parcel, so it would be 100% right this time. No reply was received within a couple of weeks. Meanwhile, I discovered a local seller who sells the cables of Whiplash in Russia, contacted him, sent the funds and received a new cable of Whiplash fitting tight, sounding right by the end of the same week. Yet having no reply I sent the initial wire back with an application for a refund and sent another email to Craig abouth this. He apologized and promised to return the full cost (240$). 2 months have passed since the wire was delivered to his NY office, yet no refund was made. All my emails are simply ignored now.

May I call it a steal? Probably no since formally warranty was violated. Was it a disgusting service and humiliating experience? Oh, definitely. Is the cable worth double cost I paid for it? Hell, yeah!!!

I still stand by the fact that no one should do self repairs with any purchased within the warranty period. When I saw the cable, it was clearly a new version. I was nice enough to replace it. After vulgar emails continued, I will did everything I could to make him happy including a free cable.

No one in this industry would do this and they shouldnt. Its my fault for taking the high road. Calling me out in this thread still shows that this will never end. With headfi, manufactures never get a voice. Many of you which were here years ago would not agree with this customer. Times have changed.

I hope someday I can do the right thing as a manufacture. But for now, one post can cause a chain reaction.

My final answer is Im sorry for giving him a free cable which he loves and I apparently made a mistake and again Im sorry for this.

Thanks,

Craig

^ and that's how the truth comes out :D where we hear both sides of the story!!!

Either way, sounds like @-marsIANin- you got Craigs attention and reply.  Since you have both cables now, why not post pictures side by side (connectors, etc.) and also let us know what headphones you have?  How about pulling stress, do you think your DAP hanging around your neck puts a stress on headphone connectors?  From what you have written, sounds like you did something to your original cable trying to modify it, and you got a free replacement, and then you sent back your original cable you modified asking for a refund while keeping a new replacement cable, and then you bought another cable from a local "prodavtcha", and you have 2 Whiplash cables now and you want your money back while still keeping the 2nd free cable Craig sent you?  Damn, that is one twisted plot :p

To be honest, I dealt with a number of retailers and manufacturers in the past, and nobody would even talk to you as soon as they hear you modified or screwed up something.  They can give you partial credit to buy a replacement, but sounds like you got a whole new free cable instead.  If you really want a refund, which again nobody would even dare to ask a vendor for refund considering you have customized short cable which they can't even re-sell or re-use,  you would have to send everything back for a full refund.  I guess lesson learn to deal with your local cable seller.  Good luck bratva!

Well, sounds like you finally got a good working Whiplash cable and happy with its performance! :D  If you are outside of US, maybe it's a better idea to contact a vendor first to find out if they have any local to your country distributors.  Saves a headache, shipping cost, and you can try to confirm a fitment before you buy it ;)

Sorry to read about your troubles. I've done business with Craig many times and have always had an excellent experience. When I first ordered from him, he answered countless emails from me, with redundant and probably annoying questions. He has always gone above and beyond for me. I don't believe there has been a time when an emailed has gone unanswered, and he has helped me out doing me favors a number of times without compensation.

I believe it's against the rules to share email information without permission, but I could be wrong.

You are actually correct.  It's illegal to post personal email exchanges, especially concerning customer/vendor business, on the forum (at least here on head-fi).  Perhaps, that is a reason why his original message was deleted?

I have purchased and received cables from Craig few years back and still the cables are rocking without any worries. From the transaction before, Craig was very responsive and accommodating on how the shipping and cable would turn out.

If there is anything or query you would ask, just have patience. Understand that Craig is a very busy person just like anyone of us.

Broken cable or different cable, stop the rant and just email Craig. He will sort it for you. Ranting will not do anything.

Lastly, modifying defective cables instead of returning them should have voided your warranty 100%. Be thankful that Craig was very courteous and kind to have your situation fixed.

2 of my messages were deleted, so you didn't get the whole story. To cut it short, I sent the first wire back but the replacement Craig sent me still was defective due to the poor connectors. And when I sent this another replacement back, he promised me to return the full cost (the screenshots of his email were published here bot moderators removed them) but never replied to my emails since. So, yeah, I'm glad he offered a replacement for the item with broken warranty but in the end I spent approx. 100$ on two deliveries to US due to his promises and got nothing from him. In Russia we call it "a bear's service" when person is willing to help from his kind heart but only makes the situation worse due to his incompetence
