Speaker calling but which?

Yep another one of these, sorry. I have been looking at some speakers for my pc and need guidance/advice.
The ones so far shortlisted but not listened to (quite difficult in the UK) are the Audioengine A5, Audioengine A2 with S8, Makie MR5, KRK Rokit RP6 G2 and the Maudio BX5a Deluxe.

With a budget of around £350 which would you choose? the speakers would be connected to my Cambridge Audio DACMagic so the speakers would have to be active.

Any help appreciated.

I have the A2's (gf's) and A5's (mine). The A5 is definetly a worthy investment for your money and a worthwhile upgrade over the A2's. I'll also say that unless you're a massive massive basshead, you really have no need for the S8 with the A5's. I get all the bass I want and then some. You could do A2 with S8 but really.. for the money I think the A5 is cheaper.

No idea with the other ones unfortunatelly.

dunno about Makie but Rokits are the best from the ones you listed BUT how will you control them? Reaching behind them and adjust volume for each monitor separately? There are however passive balanced controllers.

What is the best way to controll the volume of the KRK's?

No you don't. If you go for passive speakers, use a stereo integrated amplifier. And you have a volume knob in front of you, and as sup said reaching behind each one (and balancing each one every time you adjust the other) seems a crap method of control.

These may be out of the $ range, but I just replaced my Audio Engine A5's with these:

Adam A5 Recording Studio Monitor Are you willing to find the truth in your music collection? Review By Steven R. Rochlin

I found these to provide so much more resolution for a given volume--especially throughout the mid-range--that I'm able to listen at lower levels. Also, they sound fuller without being bloated.

I never thought I'd use pro-audio, but these have certainly changed my mind.

If you don't mind reaching around the back to change the volume then I'd add the Quad 11l Active to the shortlist. It can be picked up for £265 from Superfi. I've not heard the active version, but I do use the passive one. It sounds very nice, but obviously from a smallish speaker can't go really low. With the extra cash you could consider adding a sub if you wanted more bass (not sure how you'd connect it up - as I say I've not used the active version or DACMagic)

I have a pair of Mackie MR5s and they are great. I did a A/B comparison between the Rokits RP5, the mackies, JBL and yamaha. I took the Mackies home. They are active speakers (both) and do not have a volume control on them. I use my computer volume control to adjust the volume. I found the mackies to be more wholesome in their presentation compared to the others I heard. Got them on a storewide sale at guitar center last week ($304 for a pair+tax). Regular price was listed at $179 each. I have not heard the others you have listed.

Thanks for the feedback, a few more to think about, this is not going to be easy without listening to them all.
On the subject of volume control, I have a co-axial out from the ESI Juli@ going to the CA DACMagic. I have ASIO setup in Foobar, the only way to control the volume is in foobar. The windows volume control has no effect nor does the ESI control panel unless i'm missing something. Any ideas as I would not want to have the speakers at full volume at best of times, might upset the neighbours!

Just an update, decided to go for for the KRK RP5's due to limited space. As for the issue of controlling the volume I also purchased the Level Pilot from TC Electronics. A great volume controller with XLR input and output, highly recommended.

I will ditch the EMU and use only the DacMagic
