Are these still relevant after HD-800, PS-1000 JH13 ?

While I'm enjoying just now the Edition 8 with the Earmax SE and Seal , I'm not worried about the HD 800 that much.

If you want closed headphones they are.

As long as they don't share the bump at 100 cycles and one note bass of the ed.9...I'll take a look. They still have the same crap cable, like the ed.9. (the ed.9 was almost listenable after a re-cable). I was thinking about a pair...Drew (Moon Audio) loves them but the PS-1000 is next on the Radar. If I let my eyes stray from one side to the other I already have to many phones (OMG, what am I saying).

The HD800 are in a different league than the ED8 and ED9. From what I heard at CanJam, the ED8 seem to have a smaller sense of space than the ED9 but are more tonally balanced. The ED9 sounded pretty good in the mids and highs the bass was just a horrible muddy mess. No bass detail at all.

Thanks, I guess I'll go back to waiting a bit for the Hd800 and JH13 reviews to settle down before making my move, I was under the impression the Ed8 were not released yet hence the lack of activity about these, guess they just are not popular.

Seems to me in general, Ultrasone does not get the same attention on these forums as Beyerdynamic, Senneheiser or Grado. I think it may have to do with that they are still a pretty new company and reputation has not yet solidified.

You edited that to not reflect what I really said. That's wrong of you.

What I said was:
"The ED9 sounded pretty good in the mids and highs, the bass was just a horrible muddy mess. No bass detail at all."

And that is exactly how they sounded to me.

Some people love them, some people don't.

Different league... Hmmm. Must be really good those Senn's. Thank you for pointing us in right direction.

"Ed 9 are good in the mids and highs" - agree with you there, even though Ed 9's were complained about in numerous Ed 9 vs XXXx threads as having recessed mids. No complaints from me about mids and highs on Ed 9'.

As for bass being just a horrible muddy mess with no bass detail at all - I honestly don't get that blanket statement of yours. I personally think that the performance of Ed 9's in the bass region is what makes them such an higly regarded headphones. Well, I must've been so terribly wrong /kicking himself/, all along with fair numbers of ED 9 owners here - see, it seems like all of us Ed 9 owners are the same, poor us, we all like the muddy, bassy mess, with no detail.

Time to get HD800's or at least the AKG702's for some bass detail.

Some like the mother while others like the daughter.

My set of Ed8 are on their way to replace the LA2000 that were unusable due to sound leakage.

Hello nc8000!
Glad to hear to hear that! Does it mean you will bring them along to the next danish meet?

I really expected this to be your next move!
