ANY LOVERS OF AUTECHRE OUT THERE? - Page 3

It's so trite and cliche that I attempt to rarely say it, buuuuuuutttttttttttt Oversteps is a killer headphone album. Right before bed plug in a little see on see. Listen the star shower chords and cry. My current fave track is d-sho qub; just ridiculously good.

Currently cutting my way through chaistic slide.
I've had it for 12 months and never listened to it.

Epic stuff.....

Yeah I'm definitely a fan of Autechre, especially of the old stuff; Incunabula and Amber are among my all-time favorite albums. Can't say the same about the newer work such as Quaristice and Oversteps, really weird stuff.

They're touring now btw, still not sure if I'm gonna see them live in Amsterdam on April 7. It's on a Wednesday and it's going to be until very early in the morning, but I'm probably gonna have to go to work the same day (not that that's a big problem..).

Would be my first time, I really need to decide fast how much I wanna see them or not :|

Fast forward to last week and for some obscure reason I decided to try it again.

Jeysus, Amber is stunning. Piezo is unbelievable!

I think one if the reasons for my initial response (back in 94) was a lot to do with the equipment I was using. U really need a good sound to get the most from Amber.

I'm blown away, Autechre at it's peak...

Finding this thread made me shed a tear. I love me some AE. My first was tri repetae++. Really was my cherry popping into electronic music. Didn't know about Oversteps! Been so long since I've sought out new music to listen to, I tend to forget some groups still put out new stuff frequently!
But thanks to AE, I've got to experience all the crazy glitch, IDM, rythmic noise (which seems to be dead at this point... imminent starvation's albums were a great mix of IDM and noise) and all the other weird "sub-genres" --as much as i dislike how specific some get-- that electronic music has to offer.

anyone else got some love for Ant-Zen, Hymen, Component, M-Tronic and the like?

So few here have listened to Oversteps and experienced how incredibly dope it is?

It has been out a while folks. Let's get to it!

It's extremely good.

There have always been very bombastic comparisons to classical music with Ae and similar music - I'm particularly reminded of some raving fan before a Squarepusher show comparing Jenkinson to Beethoven in absolute seriousness - but "known(1)" is almost getting into piano etude territory. And as many failed prog rock classical experiments attest, that is not necessarily a good thing. When the synth hits, it's like Napoleon Dynamite dancing to a sarabande....

I also have to wonder how much mileage can be wrung out of comparisons between "d-sho qub" and Ravel's "La Valse".

"Yuop" shows quite conclusively that Autechre albums, at least on Warp, are not immune to dynamic range compression. Or, it's a fairly extreme (and good) use of compression for artistic effect.
