K-1000: 26AWG large enough for recable?

I've seen that Fitz in his guide uses 24AWG saying that anything larger than that would be a problem with the strain relief.

I've found some nice silver plated solid wire, albeit it is only 26AWG.

Is this enough?

Same supplier also has 24AWG, but stranded. Would that be an issue? People seem to prefer solid wire, but in a headphone cable...?

Thanks.

Well Fitz stated anything larger than 24AWG would be a problem. Clearly, 26AWG is not bigger than 24AWG.

Indeed people seem to prefer solid wire. For a headphone cable I think stranded would be better because of convenience.

Lastly, I think you should consider paying an experienced member or one of head-fi's sponsors to recable your K1000. If you screw something up you will have to buy a completely new pair as they are discontinued a couple of years ago.

If I go ahead with it, I will not be performing the recable anyway.

I just wanted to make sure 26AWG is big enough not to restrict the headphone.

26awg is smaller then 24awg. its the other way around usually ppl think 32 Awg is super big if fact its very tiny. Thanks apatN for clearing out.

Um actually I would even go so far as to go to a professional company who could provide you coverage for your k1000's... as far as I'm concerned I don't think a lot of DIYer's can cover you for a 1k+ headphone. Go with an experienced MOT, not an MOT DIYer, basically someone with a company banner and supports head-fi. Check APS, ALO, any of those guys would be up for it.

I'm pretty sure 26awg would be more than enough to support the current going through those.

SPC for K1000?

I'd recommend Apuresound. Alex does some awesome recables at good prices. I'd stick to stranded wire, solid core is more susceptible to breaking over time from daily use. Not to mention, silver is even less flexible than copper too.

Stranded copper is the most durable option. I highly recommend TWCu wire from Cryoparts, pricy but super compact and flexible and amazing sound. It's ~24ga. 26 is a little small for K1000s but would probably be fine, if you're going to recable it anyway may as well do it right.

Too bright is maybe your thinking? Or you don't particularly like SPC?

On another note, any place I can get 3/16" nylon multifilament by the foot, and willing to ship to Macedonia? I know TakeFiveAudio sells 3/16", but they won't ship to Macedonia.
