Dear experts whats makes lineout earphones loud. should USB inline amp earphones be loudest !?!

i dont know how many volts are in lineout and whether such earphones can rip my ear drums. my understanding is that for highest volume i should go for USB ear/head phones with inline amp in it because USB jack has sufficient volts to power an inline amplifier.

If my understanding is wrong and lineout/normal-jack earphones can also be equally load, how can i guage them by looking at their packing !?! shopkeeper wont let me test drive and specially to such hardware damaging levels.

Thank you.

Any particular reason why you need to damage your ears this way?

"rip my ear drums" is to show trill. I need just near to unbearable level. For years i had been listening so hard that one can listen songs on lower floor of my room. I have been achieving this by pugging desktop speakers amp in lineout and plugging headphones in lineout of amp. My listening abilities are still as normal.

The problem since beginning of time has been that computer soundcards though good at filtering sound are poor in amplifying. I once had old creative one which on its own could pump ear piercing vols. Now from desktop to laptops we have same lineout jack with pathetic vol level. After using the desktop PC and external amplifier for ages i am switched to a USB headphone with my laptop, it serves well.

i need this myth be resolved that, can a normal lineout earphone without any batteries (inline-battery-powered-amp) be very loud !?! If one gives example of PMPs they have amplifiers builtin. I an talking about laptop/desktop conventional soundcards' lineout.

Thank you.

First of, a properly implemented line-out doesn't really have that high of DC voltage to speak of, since all DC should be filtered out before the signal leaves the line-out port.

Second, the reason why line-out is always maxed out on volume is because that is what preserves the best dynamic range, thus the signal can be properly amplified by the amp without increasing the noise floor ratio (SNR). This is the main reason why people always says line-out is better than headphone-out for amplification - because line-out has better dynamic range. This is also the same reason why people recommend turning the headphone-out to high volume when it is used with amp. Even though it will not be as good as line-out, it will still be better than low volume.

Third, how high the volume can go when comparing line-out vs. headphone-out depends on the gain stage and output of the amp (on headphone-out). An amp should be able to at least closely match the volume of the line-out, if not higher (assuming gain of one for the least).

Forth, you are well on your way to permanent hearing damage (or perhaps you are already there), so you might not being able to hear any more music in the future. I am sure the question of 'which is louder?' wouldn't bother you for too long.

^^ LOL; well said, you should enjoy it while you can because you wont have a need for high quality earphones for much longer. then again, if you constantly have to find a louder set of earphones (like you will to overcome the hearing damage) eventually it will be nothing but whitenoise

thank you for taunts... I did mention that for years i have been listening on these levels and my hearing abilities are still normal. years are 5-7 years. Actually i dont listen just any music all the times. I listen only 5-7 songs in loop for an hour or so. these songs always had been NovemberRain & DontCry a must and one or two best from BonJovi, Ledzepplin-StairwayToHeaven, FireHouse and one or two from other english and/or local. I take these songs as steroids for the pain

ClieOS your help is very tech specific. can u confirm as i have guessed from ur post that indeed i will always get a normal sound. And that i will have to resort to USB-Inline-Amp-earphones to heal/sooth my pain somewhat.

I am not sure what 'a normal sound' means, but adding an amp in between the source and headphone always thing louder, that's for sure.

well you are 5-7 years closer to deafness. how do you know your hearing isnt being damaged?? do you make regular visits to the audiologist?? eventually it will catch up with you; no question of if, but when.

by the way, I dont know what you expected with this post on an audiophile forum clearly you have little interest in sound quality and you are asking people to recommend a better way to make your hearing disappear

and u with larger than post signatures is in psychological disorder of "attention seeking behavior". these r not ur ears whatever i do to them. a simple non stupid check of hearing ability is to see whether someone asks to repeat people's queries. please shorten ur signatures and improve quality of writing people will turn their attention to u in better way. My post is meant not to repeat bogus questions answered million times. instead i need to ask (which ClieOS has answered to most extent) whether the devices without amplifier can be circumvented for high vol with non-inline-amp-earphones (lineout ones) e.g. everyone knows a conventional laptop or desktop's headphone jack give audio levels of class "general" not "enthusiast" or "extreme" so are there any such earphones which without any inline-aid e.g. non-inline-amp (just by technology in earbud) could give very loud audio. i belong to extreme listener class no matter it damages my ears or my tool. I have not come to doctors i have come to audio enthusiasts forum where i have found medical-ENT quack.
