Of course! We'll see which shakes out with the best SQ. I may post some initial out of the box impressions, but I'm aware that the AMP3 takes some burn in time too. 100 hours or so. The X sure opened up over time.

Ha ha! No worries! I wouldn't even know which to place money on at this point... have no idea how this will turn out! I do expect the differences to be down to subtleties in presentation though.

I don't have the review chops of, say HPAddict or Antony1st, but I will do my best. For me, I just want to own/experience a true audiophile DAP that doesn't break the bank. The main caveat is that most people who have heard it say the OEM buds are when it really shines, which is an obvious limitation. But for the most part, I care most about audiophile-level sound at home, in peace and quiet, not out walking the dog when your attention is focused on other stuff. So the buds may be fine (or the impedance adaptor may silence the hiss with low impedance IEMs, so they also work well).

At the $150 intro price, plus the cost of SDHC cards (though I have 5GB of storage on 3 cards already in my possession), it seems a very good value, especially if it is, as the four owners (abellew, ulsanman, Craig, Sasaski), have posted already, amazing under the right conditions (100 hours burn in, OEM buds/PK1, etc.). Also, the hope is Jack Fu will release some firmware upgrades that will allow 16 or 32G cards (and Flac) to work easily, which would be simply fantastic

I am really looking forward to the Amp3. If it pans out, I will probably sell 1-2 of my DAPs. Not sure.

You mean compared the Amp3 as an amp to other amps using line in? I intend to do it with the T4, which could be expendable if the Amp3 is at least as good say with the Touch/LOD.

What is the impedance? Sasaki says the ESW9/10 and the HD-25 did not hiss ("sounded good" is what he said in his blog review) because they were not as low rated as his UE11s, I believe.

It seems it is going to be a trial and error process if you want to use IEMs/phones other than the OEM buds (or PK1/OK1). Of course, it would be best if owners can use their own IEMs, but I still look forward to hearing the OEM buds as well (post-burn in).

Sasaski didn't mention it in his review, but he may be able to answer that.

For the amp test, I'm looking forward to running the iPhone with its line out to the in of the amp3 and seeing what it does for the sound.

I'm hoping that most of my IEM's work well with it, as hiss doesn't bother me too much if it's not horrible. I just sincerely hope that hiss levels aren't so bad that it renders it unenjoyable with most earphones other than the ones provided. That would be a shame.

I should know by middle of the week, and get to do some initial experimenting.....

From reading sasaski's blog it looks like using the amp3 as an external amp is producing good results.

I only have a 2gb micro sd but it works seamlessly with that. At first i liked my SR-80's from my zune better as they have a more warm sound. But at work i used the sr-80s with the amp3, the clarity is amazing. I have never experienced any hiss with mine but then again i think my lowest impedence cans are the grados.

I just ordered so hf2 so i think i got my new portable setup around campus...

Good to hear, since I have SR80s as well. Did you tape mod them? It works. Just some electrical tape on the outer edge of the bowls. It really does boost the bass nicely.

Now that you are back posting, how does the Amp3 amp perform compared to the Icon Mobile or Cute Beyond? Curious.

What made you get the HF2s over other phones?

No i havent done any mods to my sr-80s but i just found some electrical tape so that might be an option for me.

It blows the icon mobile out of the water as amp, honestly the more i use the icon mobile the more i feel that it just increases the volume with doing to much to the SQ.

For the cute beyond i think that i like the amp3 better with my grados but i prefer the cute beyond for my Alo-780s. But isnt really fair to compare because the cute beyond is hooked up to a cd player and i use mp3s of about 192 or up with my amp3

I got to listen to them at canjam and i really liked them. They are pretty much everything i like about grados, the detail, the mids, the forwardness and very punchy bass, without the piercing highs. TTVJ were nice enough to let me use them out of my zune + icon mobile and i liked the sound. I was thinking of getting the HD-650s but i figured they are going to be around for a while and the HF2s arent so i might as well get it now than regret it later.
