Make sure the player is off this works 100% believe me.

1) hold the +volume down first.

2) keep holding the + button down, then hold down the play/pause centre button for 10 secs, keep them both pressed.

3) plug your USB cable in while still holding the afor mentioned buttons and wait until your PC installs 3rd party drivers.

4 install software as normal using the EXE. it takes a few minutes to install.

This works 100% on VISTA.

Listening to The Beatles, Dear Prudence, in flac on an 8GB card, and not good. Sound is okay, not as good as tracks onboard, and it's skipping/hiccuping randomly.

Also, now that I inserted a micro card, the controls are acting funky. When I skip to the next track, Strawberry Fields, sound skips and the song is skipping.

Back to the drawing board for flac/memory cards with flac. At least on my machine, no good.

Going to try my 16GB card next, with all MP3 or WMA files.

You have to install the software correctly as described, its no good just putting the software update files in the AMP3 folder.

If you hold down the buttons in sequence correctly the player wont turn on, if it turns on then you've done it wrong.

so as well as your above description the two .sb files have to be first transferred on the amp3's internal memory
post #1266 of 2088
I just tried it again, my method works perfectly.
I did that using XP. So the firmware is installed properly on my machine. But still had those micro card (4GB) flac skipping issues. Have the 16GB card in now, but taking a long time for the "initializing CMI" message to disappear.

Been about 4 minutes and counting.

If this works without the skipping, then flac is the culprit (at least on a micro card). Because I had no issues previously with mp3/wma files on a card (8GB was the max I used before).

Next, I am going to try and load a flac file onboard and see if it skips, etc.

Then I am done experimenting for now.

No dont put any files in your player, format the player first and take out any micro sd card.

Just follow what I typed earlier and it will install correctly.
Format it first? That I didn't do. It has music files and system files on it. So you need to start from scratch with an empty player to install the firmware?

My 16GB Micro card is still in the initializing CMI mode, not looking good. I guess I can format the thing and reinstall, but what a pain.

Update: My 16GB card is not loading. Been 10-15 minutes on the initializing screen. Looks like another problem. No time now, but I will format and do a clean install. If that doesn't work, then it means, at least on my machine, the firmware update is pretty much worthless. Most of all, I wanted the 16 GB card to work.

Here's something new that I tried today with my AMP3, with GREAT results:

I hooked the headphone-out of the AMP3 to the RCA-pair-in of my Amphora, using my highest quality mini-to-RCA IC, and listened using ALO-780 phones. MAN!!! It was very hard to stop listening! It takes all of the exquisitely detailed, gorgeously-layered, spaciously soundstaged and very live sound of the AMP3, and gave it even MORE depth (dynamically and spatially) as well as (and I did not think this would be possible) a more finished sound while leaving the illusion of its "live" sound intact. With the ALO-780 phones, the lower registers are more abundant and richer than ever (but not too much of a good thing, in any way), the mids are fuller and highs are exquisite in the finesse of their expression.

I tried, about 150 hours-of-use ago, to re-amp the output of the AMP3 with several of my dedicated amps - and I did not prefer it to using the AMP3 standalone. I tried this again because of the gains in subtlety in the AMP3 in its use of illumination in presenting the highs - and I chose the Amphora for its neutrality (since I did not want to change the sound from the AMP3, just to put more behind it), and the ALO-780 because I've always favored these phones with the Amphora.

MAN!!! Did THAT ever work!!!

What I'm going to try next is a comparison of the AMP3 as the source in this Amphora/ALO-780 rig to a 5.5G iMod/VCap Doc (VHAudio OIMP Caps) to see how the two compare as sources (for this particular rig). I'm also going to go back and try this with the amps that I tried it with previously, to see how much of this amazing performance I'm getting now comes from choosing the right amp to pair with the AMP3, and how much of it comes from the improvement in the sound from the AMP3 with another 150 hours of use on it.

I'm becoming more and more impressed with the AMP3 as my number of hours of use with it increases significantly. I recently left town for a few days, with only the AMP3 + PAA-1 earbuds. I had the opportunity to do a LOT of listening, and not only fully enjoyed (and totally rocked out on) all of the music that I listened to, but I did not once miss any of my home rigs, or let out a deep sigh of relief to be back home with them upon my return. Even now, back home, I'm listening to the Global Communication album, "76 14", using the AMP3 (with PAA-1 earbuds) - AND ..... LOVing it!

And this is all with the Original Factory FW (what, THAT old stuff???).
I'm sure that I'll get around to updating the FW on it, now that it's been actually released, and after I perform a full backup of my AMP3 in its current state, JIC.

A BIG Thank You to all of the AMP3 Pro.1 Beta Testers for the FW update.

To all AMP3 Pro.1 users who have updated to the recently-released FW, please keep the reports and impressions coming. The installation tips, use reports, and sound impressions are rivetting reading. I'm on the edge of my seat, waiting for the next installment!

The amp3 made me appreciate more of the unique sonic abilities of my esw10~
Fantastic synergy between the amp3 and esw10. Everything sounds pretty balance with some nice warmth to the music.
Haha I probably will soon.

Is there anywhere else to get this other than from Craig @ WLA?

anadin, after spending half an hour on win7 trying what you said with no luck

tried it on a vista laptop and worked first time

cheers for the info!

just copying my music back across now...

Told you, glad it worked.

Now all we need is a copy of the original AMP3 Pro1 firmware and we are in business.

That made me laugh

I was just kind of curious, did Ulsanman get the Studio I back in the day instead of the Pro I? I was going through the posts and he said something about Studio, though I don't remember what it was and I know he got it straight from the manufacturer. He said something about it being $210, so that doesn't make much sense, but I was just curious.

Edit: I read up on it again, and it appears that the AMP3 was initially named the Studio. Why would they release a new and separate product named the Studio after all this time?
