Amp3 - Page 8

They recommend small folders and I think I shall have to make mine smaller this weekend, it doesn't like folders with 200 files in them like I have!!

Back to topic. I hope tstarn06, sasaki or others owners can give us a good/detailed reviews.
Considering of its bulky outlook, you can tell your wife it is really outdated model on sale which cost only 20 bucks

Anyway your input is important, since you have x1060 to compare with

Or you can tell her you got it free as a review model, like I might do.

Want to raise his count that badly? He could easily reach 1000 by the end of month

ulsanman-
Would you mind posting your impressions here about how the AMP3 compares to the Sony X, so we can reference it in the future and not have just a second hand mention of your thoughts?

Also, you're more than welcome to send a review unit my way too if you'd like more reviews of its SQ compared to the X.

Best of luck with the new products.

@cn11...Ulsanman isn't the manufacturer or reseller of this machine (he bought one and apparently loves it). Craig at Whiplash Audio, a HF sponsor selling the Amp3 at an intro price of $149 plus S&H, is the person who has both the X1060 and the Amp3. You can ask him for a comparison in the Whiplash sponsor forum, or PM him. He mentioned to me that he has the Sony X1060, and the Amp3 sounds "so much better" (though of course he grants that the Sony is much more feature rich, etc.).

What he means by that, I don't know. But it's not an equivocation. He didn't say they were close in SQ, for example.

Doubtful he will send you a free review Amp3, but sure he will sell you one.

I don't care about feature wise sony x series, the only thing I would care about is SQ, I can put up with the fact I have sacrifice some feature in order to trade for SQ.

I wonder why Korg Mr-1 don't get enough love as this one does, already read some comparison about it and x series, or D2. It said Mr-1 was totally in different league way ahead of x series or D2. Consider Mr-1 once was priced at 800, now only selling 2xx, I would take this as truth

Mr 1 is a recorder, right? Not a DAP or amp. At least that's what it looks like at the Korg website.

And I am with you on this, SQ is what I want as well, not features I never use (or can manage without). And this is priced so much lower. You do have to add the cost of a 16GB SDHC card, so that boosts the price $50, but that is still under $200 for 20GB, with the option to expand when the 32GB cards are available.

I can live with the small screen and folder views, no doubt. I will have to organize my music a little, since I have some folders with large numbers of tracks in them. But no matter, I will do it. Also will need to rip some tracks in .wav, to get the best sound.

Am also intrigued by the idea that the included buds sound best (Craig at Whiplash says they sound better than his custom IEMs, but not sure which ones he owns). They look like rebranded Yuins (PK1s, I hope).

I have only been listening to it for the last 2 days and wanted to have more time with before writing anything but i couldnt hold out any longer lol.

When i first saw the AMP3 i wasnt impressed the design and shape is nice but not amazing, and the ui was nothing crazy. The more i used the player the more i found problems. I may be wrong as i dont have an instruction manual, but you use the play button, to play/pause music (by pressing), select options while in the menu, access the menu(by holding for a little) and power on and off the player(by holding longer). Choosing music is a little tricky and it seems slow going through the menus. But on the plus side it has a FM tuner and way you can store text files in like an ebook section i believe.

But despite all the problems i mentioned above which though i am complaining about are nothing major, when i first plugged some headphones into the amp3 my jaw dropped. I had no idea that my PK1s could sound so good. Everything was so clear the bass was so punchy the mids were so well presented and the highs seemed a little thin but much more present than with my zune/nuforce icon mobile combo. I thought i was listening to a different set of headphones. So i plugged them back into my zune and my icon mobile and i wasnt imagining it the amp3 just drove my PK1s better.

They also drove the ALO-780s so well i was surprised, they did a good job of controlling the notorious ultrasone bass. When i compared the gain in sq to the problems with the ui it was a no brainer and i havent listened to my zune since. Actually i did just for comparison purposes and it could not stand up at all.

I only loaded on the latest mp3 files(192-320) that i had on my computer but i still have to spend some more time and listen to my favourites before i can be definitely sure. But so far the AMP3 blows every portable player i have heard out of the water.
Not sure if anyone asked this yet, but hope not. Do the included buds sound as good as the PK1s? Craig at Whiplash said the included buds sounded great with the Amp3. Just curious of Yuin made the OEM buds for this machine.

Sad to say my Zune will be relegated to its dock for listening in my office.

Mr-1 is recorder, but its processor to playback sound files is professional, at least this is the idea I got from the reading, and it supports wav, mp3, also a format called DSD, which is usually seen in high quality recording like SACD. The idea is that you don't have to rip your music form DSD to wav, that cause some loss in this process, instead of putting DSD files in player

Shame the battery life is terrible

Here it is what SACD like

Anyway, I would like to see more reviews coming, like you and other members
