I hope that they are definitively better than the previous flagship from Sennheiser and the people who have invested their faith and money in it are blown away.

The previous flagship was the £10,000 Orpheus.

You kind of have to be making and building something to call it a flag ship. It's hard to call a ship anchored in a mothball fleet your flagship

My HD800 finally arrived yesterday.
It's of course not burned in jet and since my HD650 sounded noticeably smoother with more bass after about 100 hours, I guess the HD800 will have a similar effect.
There is absolutely not doubt that it surpasses the HD650 in detail, sound stage and clarity.
The best compliment for the HD800 was made by my sister and her husband, who don't know much about headphones. Both thought that I'm nuts to spend so much on a headphone but after hearing a few song with it both suddenly completely understood why I bought it.
People say it's not the WOW phone like the Denons but that's just not true, they sound so huge it almost makes you dizzy when you close your eyes.
So far I'm very very happy with the HD800 and knowing I have maybe the best headphone in the world on my head is a sweet feeling too.

How about the HD800 vs HE60? Anyone?

All the positive comments on the HD800 better than HD650 are amping them via Single Ended.

What we need is shoot out between the Balanced HD800 & HD650.

I’ve read quite a few impression that state the HD800 clearly benefits from a balanced config.

Wow! Life would be simpler if the HD800 cable tips were compatible with the 650/600. So now I have to set funds aside for a 800 and a 650?

No they aren't. There are plenty of positive comments we have made about the balanced HD800. Just like the 600/650, if you want the 800 to be at their best, they need to be balanced.

You'll find my thoughts and a couple of others in the HD800 appreciation thread: Sennheiser HD800 Appreciation Thread - Head-Fi: Covering Headphones, Earphones and Portable Audio
