FLAC or Apple Lossless?

What do you use? Is there a difference between them?

There is no different in sound quality. Apple Lossless is probably more convenient for you if you are an iTunes user.

I use FLAC just because I've always used it.

I cant tell the difference but i use apple lossless since my iphone works with it, while it does not with flac.

No difference on sound quality.

ALAC if you're going to use it with Apple's stuff, FLAC for anything else.

The only real difference: FLAC is open source format, ALAC is apple-owned proprietary. FLAC will not work on a non-rockboxed iPod.

I use ALAC.
No differences sound quality wise (they are lossless). But there are other major differences, like hardware/software support, compression rate/speed, license, features, ...

FLAC

FLAC unless you're using iTunes.

APE, coz it compresses better!

Flac for me

and Alac for those songs i intend for ipod

I tend to go for FLAC...lossless is best for archival stuff anyway, and an open-source format's going to better ensure you'll always be able to use them. Apple can do whatever they evilly please to ALAC.

^ Just so you know, there are open-source Apple Lossless encoders and decoders as well. So risk-wise there should be no difference to ex. FLAC.

Depends on your intended use. APE compresses better but it's harder to decompress. FLAC makes more sense on portable devices.

I hear absolutely no difference in audible sound. It is just a matter of function and ease, Apple products natively support ALAC whereas FLAC is opensource and only works on older modified ipods, but other media players just fine. Like Sansa players.
