Wow you are buying both?

I took one of my little bricks which is a Cowon D2+ > Silver 3.5mini i/c 2Stepdance and I enjoyed the 16s very much, just a little electronic tizz apparent. The 16 sounds like TAD ref 1 speakers to me while the 13 sounded like a Magico Q5 or a pair of Tidal speakers. I liked both and will buy bothbeerchug.gif

melkenshawn: I think recording quality makes a difference with the JH13. Try some new songs?

melkenshawn: FLAC is compression quality, not recording quality.

Fiio E6?  Lol, the E9 isn't even transparent enough to warrant attaching to a ToTL custom even if it had 0 z-out.  Continental isn't transparent either, just colored.

Get something like the Arrow 4G or Leckerton w/o the stock 8610 opamps.  Or save your money and run from your DAP.  Most portable amps just suck.  If you're lucky you might get better dynamics and a loss of micro detail.  If you know what you're doing you'll get both.

I have the Sansa Clip myselves, but my JH13 Pro sounds much fuller and dynamic straight out my iPhone 4.

Yup.

Virtually all of the differences are attributable to volume level mismatching or impedance tricks/filtering (i.e. signal degradation and an actual loss of fidelity). Some people prefer their upstream components to adjust (/color/augment/what-have-you) the signal but it's probably better to keep the equalization and signal adjustments at the source (e.g. digital equalization, followed closely by hardware EQ) and intuitively at the diaphragms as well, since no diaphragm is perfect.

I don't see why anyone would need anything more than that $100-150 reference DIY amplifier that's been recently popular, and that would be mostly for desktop use.

FLAC is pretty useless in a portable environment.

Hey just wondering what will be a good portable source and amp for the jh13?

You shouldn't need anything more than a Sansa Clip (or + or Zip) unless storage space is an issue.

Does a rockboxed iPod classic 5.5g have a lot of improvement over a rockboxed clip+?
Other than storage space probably not

melkenshawn: You might be overthinking the quality of your player in getting the 'most' out of your JH13. Is there something in particular that you find lacking in your music right now?

Umm i guess i am just thinking of ways to better the sound quality.
