JH Audio JH-13 PRO appreciation thread - Page 57

If I have researched the molding process correctly, There is a slight amount of shrinkage in the curing process. When I recieved my C-3 customs, the impressions were returned as well but I did not recognize them as the ones I sent. I was concerned until Andre told me to remove the wax surrounding the impressions to reveal my original impressions. I believe that this wax dipping process is to add a mm or two to the impressions to compensate for the shrinkage during curing.
This would leave one more subjective sizing process up to the technician in the lab who prepares the impressions for final molds as he would be manually applying a certain thickness to the original impressions. To me, this would be the stage in the process where the impressions would be most vulnerable to operator error.
and most like the cause for loose or tight fit depending on the thickness of the wax added to the impressions.
There are many things that can alter the curing time and the potential for shrinkage. the room temperature, and amount of colors added to the original base/catalyst mixture. just to name a couple.

JH Audio is using a much more precise computerized method to create the Ear Shells. There will be little to no shrinkage for the vast majority. It's most important to have proper ear mold impressions made.

Yep, they scan them. I spoke to Jerry about this.

heres my 2 cents.. when i did my ear impressions.. the audiologist told me to ship them right away as the shrink after a month..
The important thing is to get them scanned as soon as possible, to reduce the chances that they will shrink too much. I sent mine in the same week I got back from CanJam where I had the impressions done, while UE took my impressions from me while I was still at CanJam.

aha, so they are using stereo lithography then!! nice one, that makes me feel even better about my choice to go JH13 over ES3X. anything that takes the guesswork out of it is a very god thing in my book and i'm sure everyone waiting in this thread.

Brittany emailed me and said mine will go out on Monday so I asked for overnight. Why not.

Theses should be great fun with the amps we have and a couple that are coming out. There is one that will amaze and will be a welcome addition to the 13's and like Custom IEM's.

tell me about it, I think i'm gonna love running DSDIFF files to lisa from my MR-1 portable will see which rig/s I keep out of the three. trying to slim down the gear. the lisa isnt going anywhere, but if I dont need the iriver->D10 anymore its on the chopping block for sure.
Well after changing out caps to Black Gate nonpolar my D10 ain't going anywhere nor would any of my 7 or is the 8 iRivers. :6\
post #852 of 8925
yeah well I only use the iriver->dac->lisa most of the time and the dac in the korg is superior by not a small margin. knowing me i'll probably find some excuse to keep it anyway though all the same I bought the parts for your mod just yesterday; so gonna attack it and see if I can live with that for more portable when the need arises. so yeah interested to hear your impressions on that rig with JH13.

I do use the D10 rig more than the DIYMOD rig, but I need the DIYMOD for testing purposes.

so anymore arrivals yet?? anymore people wanting to whine and complain about a hair they found in the case?? oops; maybe that was out of line. just gets me when people expect factory floor efficiency from custom audio artisans. if japan was so good at this stuff; why arent we all buying our customs from there?? I will admit they are awesome at precision manufacture though

In case you don't know what I am talking about, do some reading first. Singapore banned chewing gum for many years. I did not make this up.

I believe Westones uses the same scanning process and so does UE. I would think the only companies that don't would be the smaller company's like Livewires(Now Fidelity Custom), FreQ, and Alien Ears.
