I received my Sheer Audio HA-006+ (Dynalo) yesterday and I've done a good bit of listening today with the JH13.

It seems the amp has corrected almost everything I was missing with the JH13 Pro out of the Sansa Clip+. It might seem obvious to many that a good home setup will destroy a cheap portable DAP, but I stand by my opinion that the JH13 Pro out of a budget portable setup sounds better than the vast majority of headphone rigs I've heard. One area where I thought the JH13 were lacking is treble extension, it was like they were struggling to reach the very top. Out of the HA-006+, I can't hear this problem anymore, which is very apparent for percussion instruments like cymbals and higher harmonics of string instruments. Another complaint I had was the relatively small size of the soundstage. With the Dynalo, it's still on the small side, but it's much easier now to locate instruments in space and the stereo separation is miles better. I'd still like a bit more of "around the head" imaging like on some full-size headphones, but it might not be possible on IEMs.

Some other things I've noticed so far: the bass has more weight and extends deeper, but isn't necessarily more present in terms of quantity, just tighter, which is exactly what I was looking for. Finally, I'd say the overall presentation has gone a few steps up in terms of intimacy, everything sound much more real, starting with the voices which sound extremely rich and lifelike. Needless to say, I'm very pleased with my purchase.

Interesting - was looking at the same amp. Where'd you get it?

I ordered directly from their website. Great customer service by the way, David is a super nice guy to deal with and shipping is fast. If you're looking for a Dynalo, their price is hard to beat unless you plan to build it yourself.

How is the hiss and gain on this dynalo with the JH13?

+1

The gain is set up at the default 11, which is way overkill for the JH13. With my Adcom source, which puts out 2.234V RMS, the volume knob doesn't even get to 9 o'clock most of the time before getting too loud. I plan to lower the gain eventually, but for now it's something I can live with because I still have decent control over the volume. I don't hear any hiss at these levels, it starts to hiss at around 12, but I can't go there anyway with music playing without blowing my eardrums.

Sheer Audio plan to offer different gains as an option in the future, so I'd discuss this with them if you were to order a HA-006+ to use with JH13.

If they can provide a sample unit to one of the portable gurus here like Shigzeo, we could see If it'll better than Rx or Shadow with the JH13. If so, I might buy it because at this price it's a bargain.

Although it's not portable.

You shouldn't trust anyone but yourself or even better an oscilloscope/spectrum analyzer when it comes to audio performance.
