That, and stage monitoring. They're not completely neutral by design, they have a slight bass boost to accentuate the kick drum. Jerry's exact quote to me was that he was "sick of making monitors for audiophiles", so they're not ruler flat.

However, the mids are ruler flat, which is where I think ruler-flat matters. It sounds like the upper, upper treble is a little recessed, but that's 13khz+, and there's almost no musical information up there, important as it is.

Yeah - to my ears the bass peak is very mild and maybe more like a slow rise hump vs the ES3X which are close but very slightly behind. And the JH13Pro mids are flatter than the ES3X that bring the vocals forward more.

I think they both seem to roll off past 12K but I can hear tones at 16K with all three flagship custom IEM if I turn up the volume (same with all my other phones because my ears are 47 years old). My UE11Pro might actually be a little louder at 16Khz. When I play test tones with the JH13Pro I think there is still a small bump at 6Khz , but it is much less audible than with the demos at CanJam, and it doesn't seem to be affecting them with music (no sibilance).

Looking back, I didn't know why I typed 'any' instead of 'a'.
Not sure if the promotion is still going on but 2 days ago, they said they would offer 100$ off for 10 people doing something on Tweeter. I don't use Tweeter so really have no idea what's what.

The JH13 have a +8dB hump at 50hz, which is pretty significant once you think about it.

Pretty significantly awesome, to my ears.

Also, I should like to see an FR chart for them. When I spoke to Jerry, he mentioned a 6db rise at 60hz. I've read everything from 2-8dB, and from 40-150hz .... it would be nice to pin this down definitively.

He told me at RMAF that it was 6 dB centered at 50 hz, flat at 125 hz. So if you imagine a peak centered at 50 with the zeros of the peak at 125 and 10, that is what I think the bottom end would look like. And flat bass is usually defined as "the same as the level at 1 Khz". So I would assume that from 125 to 1000 is basically a straight line.

It would kinda cool if someone would get a head model that perfectly fits some JH13's, and do a graph.

WIRE FOR HIRE.........

How many are seeking and after-market cable? How many think an after-market cable can make a difference? Raise your hands!!

You with your hands up go to the head of the class.

I was talking with Lee (Whiplash Audio) and we got to jabbering about the state-of-the-headphone art and the JH13PRO naturally came around as a prime offering.

"Everything is great but the cable" I quipped. Lee said "Ask Craig about a re-placement cable (also of Whiplash), he is my wire guru".

So Craig and I start conferring! His pair of the JH13 are in transit to him and he was interested in my input. He claims that the UE11 (he also owns) was taken up a couple notches after a quality re-cable.

"Let my pair arrive and I will start experimenting with some various wire types...and I'll keep you posted" explains Craig!

Three weeks go by and Craig emails and shares his "Eureka moment". I wanted a 6ft. pair with a nice 1/4 in. connector. He set me up!

Every now and again...just on occasion...the JH13 can sound small. Just at certain moments when a back-up singer or instrument comes into play the already small image can collapse. Add the new wire!

Whew! Hang on to something! The re-cable was my Eureka moment! The image popped out front and splayed laterally in all directions. Those holes that periodically needed fill were gone. A complete, wonderful aural tapestry was the only remnant!

Those that own the JH13 already know how special it can be. Imagine a swelling of everything of love...the balance..metered to a finite degree. The whip-snap transient elevated to warp speed. The already established Bass, firmer and larger. The highs were always clean, now polished and better integrated with the rest of the spectrum.

The State, or Position of the Audio Art has gotten a shot in the Arm. NOW I want a balanced pair!!

Are you allowed to share how much the cable cost you?

I emailed Craig at Whiplash and he quoted me a price. I suggest you do the same. He's very responsive and helpful.
