I mostly use mine right out of a 1g itouch or my iphone. They're stunningly good. Yes, they scale with an amp, and even more with a better source and amp, but that's not why I got them. I bought them for portability, and that mostly means without an amp. I'll be getting an 160g ipod soon. I plan on being perfectly happy with my JH13s, the ipod and no amp for much of time I'm using them. When I'm in situation that makes carrying around an amp easy, I'll use one, but they definitely don't need one to sound great.

I don't think anyone will tell you that they don't improve with an amp. They do. They improve even more with a dedicated, quality cdp and a desktop amp (I've only listened with a SP [some hiss] and a Gilmore Lite [great]), but unlike many headphones that require an amp to make them come alive (for lack of a better way of saying it at 12:30AM with the alarm set for 5:30AM), they sound wonderful unamped, and better than many full-sized headphones in complete rigs.

Perfectly understandable. If I hadn't heard the universal demos at CanJam, I probably wouldn't have ordered mine, and then be highly suspicious of the claims in this thread. Do you live anywhere near where a meet is happening? There's a shot demos will be present.

MaoDi had a thread that began to look at this cable, but I am not sure if there was much on the use with the JH13. Can someone comment on that since I am interested in replacing the stock cable also.

I've ordered the Lune cable from them and awaiting arrival. Of course I shall give a review of it.

TIA, I'm interested in the Lune series too but they are sold out now. Did you get the nylon sleeve?

The 160 GB iPod sounds much better out of the headphone out than my 5th gen ipod does. Most importantly, the hiss is now gone with IEMs. The new ipod sounds as good as my iphone 3GS, at least with casual listening (I haven't really A/B'd yet). Still though, the 160 GB sounds better through the line-out dock with a Pico than through the headphone jack.

BTW, I believe these differences are more noticeable with 13's than with my Senn HD 650's. That is, yes, the 13's make everything sound good, and they also reveal source quality. Somehow, not contradictory statements...

yes these things are truly a strange breed, usually headphones that sound good already unamped dont improve a great deal when they are, but JH13 sound awesome unamped with decent rips, but also scale incredibly well with source and amp, source is IMO more important, but i'm of that opinion with any headphone, for such efficient IEMs they really shine with a full blown home rig/amp IMO. wierd thing is, they are very revealing of source quality, but even when/if you do use them with sub-par equipment, they somehow dont sound that bad very strange indeed

This is true of my speakers as well. This is ideal and no headphone I've heard does this. Very revealing of good and bad but still sound musical and enjoyable. Money is the only thing preventing me from buying the JH13s. - come on economy - turn around already.

As of now, I don't believe so. I will post here when they do have it, if I remember, as I'll be sending mine in for art at that time.
