There is a sealant called Miracle Cover made in Huntington Beach California. It is a water base silicone derivative that drys flexible enough to treat awnings and lawn furniture and seals 100% waterproof adds UV protection. If should solve the problem fast. Lasts 20 years, wont flake or peal, won't turn colors and dries smooth. Works great on leather , rubber, carpet and upholstery. I will apply some tomorrow. I doubt it will change sonics. Do not apply to connector contacts. You will really be pissed. It can only be sanded off as no chemical cleaner will remove it. Not even acid.

1 Week review:

So after 4 days of painful insertion, on the 5th day my ears magically aligned with the iems and now fit perfectly with great comfort and isolation. I can do anything to my jaw and head and cannot break the seal.

The sound is nothing short of amazing. Period. Although these are my very first customs, I do have a $15k home stereo setup and can honestly say that these iems can produce more clarity and airiness to the music than my home setup. Instrument separation is larger and vocals are crisper.

However there are somethings which the iem's cannot compete against (a full sized setup). They can't extend well deep down in the bass (<25hz region) nor do the highs seem to sparkle as much. And of course the soundstage cannot be compared to a headstage.

Worth the price tag? well in my books simply yes . The ability to travel and have this kind of music playing through your head is just mind blowing. Yet, good enough to be used at home as a reference earphone which can rival my home setup costing over 10x as much. Not to mention this provides the best isolation i have come across, so on the busy train or bus you don't have to listen to that other guy's noisy ibuds

HPZ... I see that you're from Sydney too. Which audiologist did you do the impression with?... how much was it if you don't mind me asking.... How long was the turn around time after you sent the impression to JH?...

I did my impressions in the CBD at excellence in hearing. It was $50 for a pair of impressions. I sent them off the same day, 14th august. JH got my impression exactly 2 weeks later. JH took only 1 week to complete my iem with artwork and 1 more week to ship to back to aus. (got them 15th Sept)

So total time was exactly 1 month.

Cost:
impression........................................ .. $50Aus
postage of impression........................... $25Aus
JH13 + artwork + shipping ($1224US)...... $1475Aus ($0.83 conversion rate)

Total
$1550Aus

Now a question for the veterans,

I know the JH13's can scale very well with source and amps, but which one is more important?

I assume its going to be the source since these won't be needing to be driven very hard at all.

So how would you section a budget on dac vs amp? I'm looking to get a benchmark dac1 or similar dac and for the amp get a shadow (so i can use it on the move as well)

or would say a dac magic + woo6 be a better choice?

My budget is about 1k - 1.2k

Thanks

you can wield a soldering iron enough to build a buffalo32, you may not believe it, but I have faith in you mate balanced B32 walks over DAC1 IMO. and yes it is my feeling that source is as always the most important after headphones.

and OMG those are some cheap impressions for OZ bajaiman I would take that option if I were you. if the impressions are good, which it seems they were, that deal cannot be beat. I reckon you just figured out how to insert the JH13 properly after 4 days hpz

Hi you happy jh13 owners, I wonder if jh audio like ultimate ears did, will get international dealers eventually? I know in the states its easy to go to an audiologist and get your impressions from there but htis is not the case in the netherlands for example, here you will have to go to a hearing aid store and hope they can do it for you.
I am not going to buy the jh13 right now, waiting a few months more, but I am pretty sure I will have them eventually along with either the hifiman or the studio 2.
Greetings, Anouk,

Greetings, Anouk,
I am in the US and I went to a hearing aid dealer down the street. $5 per ear impressions and worked great for my Fidelity Custom Duals. I wouldn't discount a hearing aid shop as not being qualified to take good impressions. Just call and ask.

I think you will find Anouk, that the vast majority of JH|13 owners worldwide (or any custom for that matter) got their impressions done at an audiologist that makes their bread and butter doing hearing aids, not musicians monitors.

Once you get impressions can then just send them off to whoever. For example once I get mold , then custom tips £90 for TF10 I could get JH13 Pro.

oh dear.

I would be asking myself - how badly does it irritate skin after constant contact?

Got mine today. Fit: perfect (as I the feel most people who haven't posted have had a good fit too). I had no problem with putting them in and right from the beginning, outstanding sound, such a step up from the UETF10s. I am using them through my predator. All files lossless (I think it would be a wasted otherwise). I am sure it will only get better with some burn in time.
