Just to follow up, the demo unit I received for the meet does still have that slight treble bump around 6k or so. Other than that, my custom unit has deeper and punchier bass, I would assume because of the better seal than what is possible with the universal version. The soundstaging is also a bit more pinpoint and the sound clearer than what I get from the demo. The demo definitely gives you the "WOW" effect of the super-fast drivers, low distortion, and punchy bass. But the real custom just makes it more refined and perfected.

They are really very close. I don't think the Shadow is the next level and some may say they don't detect much difference. To me there are subtle differences. At least with smaller you still have excellent fidelity and for these reference IEM's, a great little amp with a big sound.

While this does pertain to how the Shadow sounds with the JH13's further questions most likely should be phrased in the Shadow thread I started on portable amps.

x2. Very impressive with the BA. As was everything I tried. Also nice was the DNA, but I really loved them with what I am told were the Frank Cooter amps, which also drove the HD800s authoritatively.

If jp mentioned this, and I just missed it, my apologies. One of the nice things at yesterday's Bay Area mini-meet was a Jerry Harvey table, where there were a couple of JH13s, along with a bunch of foam tips, so that visitors could demo them. I asked whose ears were fitted for the units, but the photog fellow there did not know. Anyway, one listen to these "universalized" versions convinced my friend who went with me yesterday to order a pair of JH13s. He loves his Sen HD600s w/ balanced cables and his LiveWires, but he was sold instantly.

jp, what did you think of the Bottlehead SEX amp? Although I loved their instruction kit, I was less than impressed by the amp sound. Thin in the bass, 2-dimensional, and rolled-off highs. My colleague had similar, though not identical, impressions. Granted, it seemed to be an intentionally low-cost rig [not just the amp], but I am wondering if something wasn't fully burned in yet.

I don't see how that is even remotely close to SGD 2.2k. Just my 2cents on getting the JH13 in Singapore.

Ha ha, yes you're right this is an appreciation thread. Sorry if I sounded like wasn't blown away by them. If I wasn't clear, I was quite impressed with all of the universal samples at the meet yesterday especially the JH13. There were some things about the universals that I didn't like, such as soundstage and imaging, which wasn't as accurate as I expected. But again, I know they're universals and and I expect the custom units to resolve them based on what others are saying here.

Yeah the soundstage would be effected since I don't believe the universals are using the dual bore design and also the fit effects soundstage immensely.

Less ambient interference, less interference from our enjoyment being pushed onto our house sharing loved ones, and less microwave size boxes scattered throughout the nooks and crannies in our homes.

not to put words in others mouths but I am comfortable stating that to a greater or lesser degree these headfiers would agree with my JH13 view

Ear impressions would most probably be less or way less than that.The shipping cost may also be probably lower. (With the exchange rate at(1:1.44) , maybe you can get it at around SGD1.8k(inclusive of the aforementioned).

I was just listening to the first Liquid Tension Experiment album with the JH13s, these headphones are absolutely incredible with Prog-Metal music. The bass is awesome, crisp sound, and I can hear details that I have never heard before.
