Ah ah! You admit it! An appetizer. Which is to say: the sadistic invention of a mad French cook, craftily designed to whet the hungry man's appetite, so he can better starve, waiting for the ever-elusive main dish! It's all a conspiracy, I tell you!
I'm sure HPA's JH13 first didn't fit him on purpose, to delay his review just that much longer! Come on! It's so obvious, people! Look at it: HPA/JHA, Larry/Jerry! Wake up, everyone! A conspiracy! It's a c--bip bip bip bip bip |

Just so that there is no misunderstanding, the greater impact comment I made, refers to the lowest parts of the bass spectrum. Impact on most music without synthesized uber-low bass is fairly even between the two, with the L3000 ahead on tracks with the right mix of frequencies.

I read the review of the 10x3s somewhere and am very tempted to get into these jerry Harvey customs. Now where should I go in(what model) is the question. I wonder if the 5 is supposedly as balanced as the 13 but just less detailed or is it a differently voiced pair like what UE does to their models... 11 bassy, 10 accurate, 4pro accurate, 5pro bassy, etc.... I got scared of the comment somewhere where someone said Jerry told them that the jh5pro was to be in direct competition with the ue5pro since the UE is a bass oriented model. Well i'll go for the 13 if I had an unlimited budget but unfortunately thats not the case

jh10pro and jh10x3pro seems interesting also.

I will have the final ones next week, with new shells made from a scan of my UE11pro, and then I will feel confident in completing my review with a good fit.

(But, honestly: thank you for the preview. I learned from it that it was worth being a little more patient, however bad at it I may prove.)

Sssh! Don't remind 'em ninja!
Another good reason to wait, now that the $100-off period is over anyway, is that the quality of the JH13 seems to be increasing (the artwork and general finish).
I'm still torn between the JH5, ES3X and JH13. One post pulls me in one direction, then another post in another, then... Do you think they let you bring IEMs in mental hospitals?

I doubt it. I have two pairs of custom IEMs, and they don't age at all... but I do take good care of them. Basically, this just means I leave them in a pouch or case when I'm not using them.

I'm going to say and stand by my opinion that the JH13s are one of the top 5-8 headphones I've ever heard, and those headphones are all fullsize.

John, when were you last in touch with Xin? what's going on with the reference these days (is it 'finalized', and is it available)?

Oh, LOL!!!
I think everything has its limit, you shouldn't expect so much.
But, have you tried the HE90 yet?

Not directly. They have two very different sound signatures, and would be complementary, but not redundant. The HE90, especially with the HEV90, in the Orpheus configuration has a warm, romantic sound that is not exactly what I'd call accurate, but is very listenable and enjoyable. The JH13 is more like a high-end studio monitor in a well-treated room, showing you a much more accurate picture of the recording, for better or worse.

As to which would sound "bassier," it depends on what is being played. The L3000 sounds bassier on your average rock or jazz track, where most of the bass is relatively high in frequency. The JH13 sounds bassier if you are listening to electronic music with mostly very low bass.

I have the ES3X and JH13. Also had UE11s prior to some shenanigans with United's baggage handlers.
