HPA, I agree the UM56 make a big difference in improving the W3s. They don't quite make the 3 a true custom, but they help. Still, even with the 56, the highs have an edge that is absent in the 13. Not to mention the blurring of detail, especially in complex orchestral passages, where the 13s are like optical glass. And for me, on the bass, there is not much comparison. I found the 3s relatively satisfying in the mid-bass registers. Not quite as good as I had originally hoped when I got them, but not bad, and definitely more presence when amped by something like the Mustang. But again, they suffer by comparison, and when compared on the Apache, the difference is even more dramatic.

its funny how so many people here have every single top tier universal IEM, and then are considering customs.

I can see maybe selling one universal to get another one, and then selling that one to get another one, but people here keep every single earphone they hear.

Waste of money and time, IMO, to be that wishy washy.

from the time I started reading, the only set of universals I have bought are the UM3X. I consider them the best universals.

my next set of earphones is the JH-13; what i consider the best custom based on feedback of the sound signiture.

before anyone flames me for saying that the JH-13 are good before listening to them, just think. why would Jerry introduce a set of customs that are the same price as a model made years back (UE11) and have it be inferior sound quality wise.

don't get me started on the ESW-9. If the ESW-9 are on par, people rave all night about the money they saved. If it is less than steller in comparison, they blame it on the price difference.

any links to anyone with the lower models like the 5. I am also wondering how the sound of the 10 and the 10x3 differ for example since they are both $799. I see the former has dual bass drivers and a high freq driver and the latter one of each bass, mid, high freq drivers.

I read the review of the 10x3s somewhere and am very tempted to get into these jerry Harvey customs. Now where should I go in(what model) is the question. I wonder if the 5 is supposedly as balanced as the 13 but just less detailed or is it a differently voiced pair like what UE does to their models... 11 bassy, 10 accurate, 4pro accurate, 5pro bassy, etc.... I got scared of the comment somewhere where someone said Jerry told them that the jh5pro was to be in direct competition with the ue5pro since the UE is a bass oriented model. Well i'll go for the 13 if I had an unlimited budget but unfortunately thats not the case

The JH13 has without a doubt faster bass than the L3000, which is quite quick in the bass, as dynamic headphones go. The result is that the L3000 is more pronounced, but less detailed in the upper bass, and lower mids. The JH13 has more bass down low (say below 40Hz), and greater impact/slam in that low bass as well.

As to which would sound "bassier," it depends on what is being played. The L3000 sounds bassier on your average rock or jazz track, where most of the bass is relatively high in frequency. The JH13 sounds bassier if you are listening to electronic music with mostly very low bass.

Indeed. Sad but true for the HD600, which were the queen to the R10's king of Head-Fi back when I joined. Not that the HD600 was even the most advanced headphone around back then, but recent developments have really knocked them down more than a few notches in the pecking order.

Your best bet would be to email or call JH Audio and see what they tell you. Anything else would just be speculation and heresy

Yeah, but what he's not telling you is that I sent him a super secret PM a week ago with a mini-review. He's just not happy with only an appetizer.

Anyone know if these will eventually turn yellow? Or are they using that new-fangled material that doesn't yellow? Trying to make a color decision.

That makes me more and more curious about the JH13s. Greater impact than the L3k's is something wonderful. Can't believe an IEMs can sound that good. Now that my expectation is super high, if the JH13s can live up to ~85-90% what I hope, I'm satisfied.

It looks like JH Audio is overwhelmed with orders now. I may wait for the next two weeks when they get some air to breathe. Time to go around finding a nice artwork!
