Mine were delivered on Tuesday as scheduled, but I did not get them from my sister until Thursday. Man, that was torture!
First thing I noticed was that the faceplates were not opaque as I specified, and the symbol was not in the style I specified either. I requested for dark metallic navy blue in solid color and the symbol is to be the exact same style as Tommy Lee's on UE's site (very similar to Yukari's). As I had stated a few days ago, I was worried that Adam forgot to put the artwork on my JH13s because there was no charge for it on my receipt. So, I called Adam on Monday to ask him whether he remembers doing mine or not. He told me that he remember doing mine, and he added that he thinks I will like them. Well, I'd be lying if I said that I didn't mind the "mistakes" when I first saw them. I will get back to the color and artwork later...
My biggest concern was definitely about the fit. And thank god, the fit is perfect! I was worried about the fit because when I had my impressions done, the audiologist told me at the last moment that he thinks a wide open mouth impression is too much and he thinks a bite block would force my mouth too wide open. Thus, he wanted to take my impressions without using a bite block!!! I thought to myself "WTF!?", especially since I emailed him the instructions from JHA's Web site before hand and he said "no problem". Somehow, I went ahead with the process anyway (I was busy that day and I did not want to re-schedule with another audiologist). Luckily, I was able to keep my jaw still the whole time and that semi-open mouth impression (about one inch) turned out very well too.
What about the sound? Well, I did not get blown away by them with my first listen. Not underwhelmed, but just not blown away--at least not by the first song I listened to. However, I will get right down to the chase. My love/appreciation for these cans grew with each song that I listened through them. They are so smooth, accurate, fast, neutral, balanced, and no sibilance at all. I mean, I just can't stop listening to them! The highs, the mids, and the lows are so well done that I feel no single note is ever out of place. The details is truly remarkable as well--they make me want to go through my entire collection, so that I can discover all the details that I had been missing before. By the second day, I must already have been in awe more than a dozen times. It doesn't matter what I throw at them: rock, jazz, classical, etc., they all sound incredible. Using the JH13 to listen to live albums make me feel like I am actually at the concert! I am going to buy a lot of live albums for these babies, that's for sure.
Now, let's get back to the artwork and the color. You know what? Adam was right. I like them... a lot. With the faceplate's color, translucency, and reflective dust particles, they make me feel like I am looking into outer space! It has some sort of nebula-like look. And no, I don't get high. It makes the Aum symbol a perfect match with this look. In fact, I have a suggestion for you future buyers out there, you might want to consider this faceplate color/look combo with an artwork of your astrology sign. I think it would look totally awesome. If I hadn't gone with the Aum symbol, I think a Scorpio (my sign) would just look killer!
In the end, it turns out that everything turned out great for me. I couldn't be any happier with this purchase. As a matter of fact, I am going to call Adam and Jerry on Monday to let them know how happy I am with their product. I think they both deserve a pad on the back (for my pair anyway).
I am a proud owner of these babies:
