Exactly what I'm thinking.

The JH13 looks interesting but comments like it sounds on par with the HD800 or O2 makes me skeptical. Most of the comments here were like "OMG, it's crazily good!" right after the first listening. I personally don't believe those kinds of comments. One needs some time to fully appreciate a phones.

The JH13 is already on my next-to-buy list in the forthcoming 2 or 3 months, but not now.

I understand what you mean, but I think Blutarsky was completely clear when he said "Unfortunately since I did not have IEMs custom made for my ears in two cases I admit there may be a very large flaw in my methodology so take these impressions for what they are meant to be - my experience and opinion."

The only way that he could have made it fair is by purchasing both the UE11 and JH13 (and potentially having to deal with fit/construction issues). Only a hardcore few will be willing to do that. No one can be "mislead" by his review, unless they somewhat accidentally skipped over his first paragraph. Anyone with at least an average intelligence would see that his experience had that critical flaw that needs to be taken into consideration. In other words, you got worked up over nothing. Most people here are smart enough to see what you and I saw in his impression. In fact, you weren't the first to point it out. It was the first replier to his impression. And in fact, the replier pointed it out in a much more gracious way, rather than being red-alarmed and name calling.

Now, if it was truly a misleading act, he would have left out completely the disclaimer.

Unfortunately I suffer from both. My blucigs are on their way and should be a nice alternative for me. I can tell you that audiophile-itis is far more addicting.

Lil' Knight, I totally understand that reaction, but I am a few weeks in, and my JH13s continue to outperform my HD800s. I think I have gotten past FOTM, and am voting with my wallet. Rather than spend more on my HD800s, I am putting my money into stuff to make my JH13s more convenient to use with my desktop rig.

I find that extremely difficult to believe, but then again I have no reason to doubt what you claim to be hearing.

I'll have to contact JHAudio and see if they wouldn't mind sending a pair of the universals to Atlanta for a week so I can compare the two myself.

They're his observations; they are what they are. Take them for whatever you find them to be worth; he was honest on certain points that for me invalidate those comments as any kind of "review." Shizgeo notes you cannot remove all subjectivity; I agree. But one can remove obvious obstacles. In this case, those obvious obstacles are so severe from my perspective as to make them not very useful. Others might find his impressions useful. But there are no "demo-ish" JH-13s for sale that I know of, and so for me, it's almost as ungrounded as a hypothetical comparison. Heck, even my own comparisons of my JH13s to my LWs and HD800s are only going to have meaning to someone who at least one of them, I suppose. But at least I am comparing the product as it is intended to be bought and used.

subtle, I never heard the universal JH13 demos, so I cannot speak to this directly. Some of the early reporters observed some shortcomings that according to those same reporters, were rectified in the final product. But I think your idea is a good one. For me, I have put about 25-30 hours of direct track-to-track comparisons between the two; well maybe, closer to 45-50 based on my notes. I have done the comparison entirely on my AppleTV-->Apache rig, with the only other variable also involving comparison of my two DACs. Impressions of the headphones were consistent across both DACs.

Having just spent $1400 on the HD800s, I wasn't looking for, or expecting, either headphone to be "superior" to the other. Still............

The sub bass is bumped a bit to give the drums impact. The bass is in no way Ety flat. It does not have a mid bass hump though.

Jerry also wanted me to mention if you send in your DAP dimensions he'll cut out a place for it in the foam of the carbon fiber case. Simlar to what he did for me here.

Reviewing your custom against someone else's custom IEM is like wearing someone else's dentures and wondering why the food doesn't taste as good.

Thanks for your opinion. Great to hear you're enjoying your JH13 that much.

Sooner or later, I'll get the JH13s, still trying to justify how these IEMs can stand against those big boys (HD800 and O2). I love my O2 so much that I definitely cast a big doubt on any comment that the JH13s sound at least near the O2's level, let alone on par. About the HD800s, I *think* it might be possible, considering they lack the fun factor and a little bit too neutral, i.d great on everything but nothing special. Would be to have a portable phones that can deliver about 80-85% of the HD800's SQ though.

Lemme know if you can persuade them to lend you an universal sample Would be great to try them before pulling the trigger.

@EDIT: about the reviews of these phones, I definitely won't consider them seriously. It would be fun to read the comparisons but to me, reviews these days are full of hype and over-excitements or over-exaggerations like min-by-min burn-in impressions. My hockey-dude hits the point when showing the "Westone case".

Or like wearing someone else's condo. . .

I was helping in a skilled nursing facility and one of the people there complained his dentures weren't working well. He had put in his neighbors. . . .
