wow, so far unanminous

Wow. So far it's unanimous.
The headfi house is divided concerning the HD800.
Half say it's perfect and the other saying it's bass shy (over-dampened bass) and treble hot.

So far, there's seems to be united house on this. The jh13pro maybe the phones that people were expecting the HD800 to be.

I haven't been able to get my HD800's in the UK yet so jumped on the JH13 wagon. I have to say that the comments of the last few pages are building up the expectation somewhat.

I am thinking about changing my portable setups and wanted some advice.

I use an iphone 2G for ultra portable and 160GB iPod Classic with GSP Voyager, both with ALAC.

I was wondering which would give the greatest satisfaction; a 3GS iPhone or and iMod 5.5 with Voyager.

Any comments on these options (or thoughts on the HiFiMan 800)?

Good point! I also don't read much about the JH13 being analytical which has been said by even the biggest fans of the HD800. I trust LFF, and I knew when he stated the JH13 impressed him much more than the HD800, there was something to it.

I just fired up the iBasso D10 and P3+ and this proves to be a very good combination with the 13's. Again, very wide and good depth and transparency. Eric Clapton, "Unplugged", comes across exceptionally well. I thought I would get some, or a small amount of hiss from the P3+ but I don't.

^ I suggest you wait... until they finish my order. Then do it. I talked to them yesterday and they are still getting slammed. The good news is most of the crew took a few days off so they should be fresh and ready to pump a bunch out. They thought orders placed now would take about 2 weeks to ship.

I don't think I compared it to a $15,000 system other than perhaps jokingly saying I was going sell off my speaker rig and keep the JH13. I mean, they are great, imo, but they will never replace my speaker rig.

They sounded better with a Predator amp but that hindered portability. Portability is so important to me right now.
Hmmm.... You really have to at least try the demo... =)

Listening to blues (pitch corrected :^( ) guy Joe Bonamassa, "The Ballad of John Henry". It sounds epic on the 13's with the iRiver H140 lossless>D10>iBasso T3.

I can leave these in for hours with no discomfort but I find that if I create no pressure (air) when putting them in by not getting a seal until done, I get the best airy sound and most open.

I don't have any experience with the Voyager, but I have a 3GS [have had all three models], and I have an iMod 5.5 with Mustang. The iPhone doesn't sound too bad, but it can't keep up with the iMod/Mustang, and the storage capacity differential is significant. With lossless files, that matters.

Custom monitors come with nothing but a cleaner, a case, and that's about it....maybe a bottle of Oto-Ease like Westone does...and some manuals and papers...noooothing else
