I can always change out recordings if I want and need more room.
Just curious what you mean by WAV and lossless. You seem to identify them as two different things when they are the same, or maybe I'm just not reading it right?

Apple lossless files are not as big as WAV.

As an example, a CD I just saved to Apple lossless is 450mb but in WAV it would have been the same as on the CD, which was maxed.

WAV is uncompressed, lossless means something is compressed in a lossless format. Apple lossless is one lossless format, FLAC is another (though FLAC is smaller, and is considered lossless from a sound perspective, I don't think it can be converted back to a bit-perfect WAV file).

I just expected a little more amazement. The UE10/11 were monumental and this is supposed to be an advancement to them, so I guess my hopes are pretty high.

Rob, I'm guessing that the reason you're not seeing the traditional emotional impressions we've become accustomed around here when something new hits the market, is that most of us who have ordered them already own at least one pair of high-end custom iems, and/or have some experience with other high-end headphones and audio gear. That changes our perspectives and our expressions of them.

Based on my limited time with the universals at CanJam, I expect to be very pleased with my JH13s, and maybe deeply so, but I'm not going to be bowled over. That moment came at my first meet, when coming from my SR60/micro amp/ipod rig, I heard a HE-90 rig. Another moment like that came when I went from my ER4P/Ss to UE11s. Expectations and standards have shifted since then. If I say quite simply that I think the JH13s are good based on X,Y, and Z, my references for what that simple word means are listed in my profile. To add hyped up or emotionally charged language seems unnecessary and false, though if I hadn't heard or owned the gear I have, I suspect my tone would be quite different.

Let's see what happens when mine actually arrive. I'm still willing to be bowled over, so who knows?

By right it should be bit-perfect if your decoder/encoder are good. They've been tested quite a number of times already. FLAC files are bigger than ALAC but there are some really great decoders for FLAC and thus people might tend to go for FLAC more.

I don't really think it matters much. Both Apple losseless and FLAC are equally good. I use Apple because I use iTunes.

alac and flac are sooo close it doesn't even matter it is like a green apple and a red apple is either one better or are they just different flavors of the same thing? (don't try to argue this to be a jerk lol) lossless is lossless...

?! they shouldn't be flavors of the same thing... they should be the same thing. Unless the a codec is broken...

they can't be because they are two different takes that do the some thing Adam therefore, 2 flavors of the same thing. If they were both the same then they would be the same thing.

They're both quite decoder-dependent in terms of that. They should be exactly the same with everything else the same...

Yup it is decoder-dependent. the output waveform will be exactly the same.

However, due to the difference in coding and the microprocessor/microcontroller in the DAP, the battery life of processing these formats will differ.

Worse case will be the microprocessor will not be able to process all the sound data on time and you will hear glitches or distortion. But dont worry because the microprocessors are much more advanced now.
