Whats the difference between Grado RS-1 and RS1i

I am a happy owner of RS-1i, and am wondering what is or are the main differences between this "newer" model and the older one.

I am aware that there is a different cable used, but what about the internals like the driver, etc...

All information is appreciated.

According to the Grado website, the driver was also "upgraded." Whether or not the newer driver was used at all prior to the release of the "i" version is a mystery to me.

but how is the sound comparison between the two? I am not seeing people say "why did they ruin" an great product, but at the same time no one is really saying that RS-1i beats the older sibling.

Just curious to hear from folks who own both...

The "i" in RS1i stands for "inferior" So my RS-1's are better.

Sorry.

How many hours does it usually take to break-in (burn-in) a pair? About 50?

About 300.

Thanks. I just be up to about 80 by now.

300 hours? No membrane will change after 40-50 hours mark. Or course if the volume loud enough to actually stress it. With volume too low you can play it for 1000+ hours with no effect.

So the louder one plays them, the quicker the "burn-in" happens?

About normal listening volume should do it.
