Sony NWZ-S638 ID3 tags problem

Hello, this is my first post here on the forum.

About a month ago I bought S-series DAP. Since then I have a problem with ID3 tags on my player. First time I loaded music on the player, tags were showed by so many deviations - for example: in Radiohead's song "15 Step", the player kept filename, showing song's name as "01 15 Step". Also, the year wasn't recognized. Trentemollers "25 Timer" was shown just as "Timer". And, till this day, I just can't see year of any song. It just won't read it. I tried it to transfer with Walkman Media Manager and it read all tags correctly. I installed a new firmware hoping to fix this problem, but it didn't. My friend's E436 Walkman reads tags with no errors (by drag n drop). Do you have some advice how to solve my problem? For information, all my ID3 (v3.2) tags are filled. I use Mp3tag to tag files. So I ask you to give me solution, because if the tags can't be read correctly by a drag n drop system it would be such a shame, cause I bought this player because of its drag n drop functionality (Due to sound quality). And if that can't be solved, I'll sell it and buy a new nano.

Thank you.

use media monkey that will solve your problem...it has an auto tag function it will sort out the errors.

I read about that. But I want my player to work and read tags by drag n drop system. Although, all my tags are correctly filled by mp3tag, that's almost the same as MediaMonkey. Yesterday I thrown an AAC file on my player by drag n drop and it had read all tags correctly. I really don't know what's the point... :/

There's something I've always wanted to try with this using mp3tag.

You know that box that says "comments" or whatever it is? Try putting the year in there, and report back with whether it works or not.

Ok, I just drag and dropped some MP3 files (tagged with MediaMonkey) onto my partner's S639 and my S739 (in its default MTP mode). The only tag that didn't transfer properly was the year field, but everything else is in order including the title and even the album art.

When I drag and dropped the same files via UMS mode, all tags appeared correctly including the year field and album art. Hope this helps.

I tried but it didn't work.

BTW, how do I change from MTP to UMS mode?
What's the difference between them?

On your PC:

Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager

Find the Walkman on the device manager then choose 'Update driver'. Select 'no, not this time', then install from a list (advanced). Choose 'Don't search', then you will be presented with a list where you can choose between MTP and USB Mass Storage device.

MTP is a Microsoft-led media protocol for connecting portable devices to PCs. UMS/MSC mode will treat your device like a normal storage drive. The Walkman will also get its own drive letter.

I found with the A818 any weirdness with tags is sorted by MediaMonkey.

I don't use the auto tag though.
