I remember when I was looking for one that I was linked to Meier Audio's website about the HD800 but I didn't want to wait for shipping so I found something in the used forum.

Same situation for me. Was all set to order from Jan Meier, but found a pair in the used forum for less than a grand shipped.

So are you as surprised/happy with using the HD800 with the Fiio E17/E09K combo as I am? I know it's nowhere near what the HD800s can do with a better amp, and maybe a better DAC, but the E17/E9 combo really does quite well. I was quite happy using the HD800 with just the E17, but now that I'm home, I'll admit to using them almost exclusively with the combo. The extra power of the E9 (or E09K in your case) just makes the HD800s really sing! :)
I can't wait until I can save up enough money to buy a Schiit Mjolnir amp and possibly the companion Gungnir DAC. Enjoy your new toy!

Any comments on how the HD800 mates with a 2A3 amp?

Sounded great from both Donald's and Craig's 2A3 amps. Haven't heard the HD800 from any other 2A3s.

DNA Stratus is magnificent with the HD800 (even more so with Sophia Princess 2A3's), I have not heard the EC 2A3 but I'm sure it would be great as well.

Yep I believe the EC 2A3 is HeadphoneAddict's favorite amp for the HD800, slightly favoring it over the much touted Luxman P1-u pairing.

I've got the original Moth 2A3 with RCA monoplates. From the responses so far, the HD800 and Moth sound like a match made in heaven but I wonder if it will be different enough from my HE6 with the Moth which is excellent except for extremely dynamic music at loud levels.
Also, any idea what the 800 is going for on the used market? It's hard to get a handle on the pricing when looking at the active and archived "For Sale" headphone sections.

Just got mine in the mail today. SN# 195xx. Playing through Fiio E17/E9 right now. Pretty incredible even with no break-in and mediocre DAC and amplification. Waiting for a new DAC and amp from Schiit. I'm mostly an IEM guy, but like the HD650 and really like the Q701.
So for all these people claiming that the sound is good with "mediocre DAC" and amplification,
and waiting for a better source, I'd be interested by your comparison with the better source.
