Sennheiser HD800 Appreciation Thread - Page 377

Hopefully by March the boys at Schiit will have a new pair to try out, but if not I'll have them with me.

I'm now an official member of the HD800 owners club! I bought sphinxvc's S/N 07xxx pair, and they officially arrived. The curse of "HE-6 vs. HD800" has officially been passed on to me wink.gif

Once very interested in them I'd decided against them in favor of HE-6 a few months ago....but I just couldn't resist this time! cool.gif

I love my HE-6's, but as a very long time HD650 fan, it's nice to be part of another Sennheiser culture as well!

I'd like to hear the HE-6 but the monumental power requirements are a deterrent. I've read some positive impressions from those who've tethered it at the end of the Schiit stack, but I'm completely satisfied with the HD800 and the synergy it has with the Gungnir/Mjolnir. The curiosity isn't enough to justify another investment, though I'm itching to own the LCD-2 again. Stupid head-fi addiction.

I thought the same thing but I've heard the HE6 at a mini meet and it sounded very good. The Mjolnir also is pretty good with the HE6. I'm going to have to sell one of my headphones down the line. I'm leaning towards the AD2k but don't want to sell the headphone but if I keep the Mjolnir I would want to have the AD2k balanced.

What's this curse?  I may already have it and don't know it.

No doubt you've had the mono block crusaders shoot you down and argue you're not hearing the HE-6 at full potential. How does it compare to the HD800 from the Mjolnir?

Can't hear a HE-6 at it's full potential unless it is directly attached to a nuclear plant.

I've heard it off a speaker amp at a meet and there were experienced people who thought it sounded really good. Although I really could care less about full potential right now. Some in here would probably shoot me down for running the Mjolnir off a SE dac although a very good SE dac. A speaker amp isn't realistic for my uses and I did do some research on them but I'll stick with what I have.

I just got my Mjolnir in the mail a few days ago so it is fairly new. It will probably take me a month or longer to get enough hours for those who believe in burn in. The HE6 and HD800 are both very good. You really can't go wrong with either one. The biggest surprise was that the gain of the Mjolnir was enough where I didn't have to move the volume knob all the way up to get good volume on the HE6. It's at around 9 o clock right now. The biggest difference between the two is there is slightly more bass with the HE6 and everything is smoother.

The HD800 has been my favorite headphone for a long time and stopped me from buying and just enjoying what I have. The HE6 was an impulse buy but it will need to be really good to beat the HD800 since the HD800 suits me perfectly,

Hints of grain and etch in particular recordings disappeared when I changed the Bifrost to the Gungnir. I'm also running SE between dac and amp as I await balanced interconnects. Do you plan on auditioning the Gungnir? It'd be interesting to read how it stacks against another well regarded dac like the D1.

I'm guessing this may be part of the reason I never found fault with HD800 like some others. I have never used my HD800 with anything below the D1 and have used the V200 amp and now the Mjolnir amp so all high quality products. The HD800 has always sounded excellent with whatever I have thrown at it.

I find the D1 dac to be very good even when I have heard other highly regarded dacs so I have doubts the Gungnir can surpass the D1. Prior to my HE6 purchase I was planning on buying a usb to spdif converter and buying either the Yulong D18 or the matching Schiit Gungnir. That is no longer the case in the immediate future. I may one day get something balanced but it definitely won't be anytime soon unless I end up selling the AD2k which is very unlikely.

How does the Mjolnir and HD800 sound together? I'd think it would be unenjoyable because of the aggressive nature of Mojo.

My God para... have you ignored the countless impressions from HD800 owners in the Mjolnir thread? On this very page of this thread you have rawster, Maxvla and myself who have posted first hand impressions counter to the speculation from those who clearly haven't spent time with the pairing. This speculation is really irksome, as you then have people like prepoman and others who haven't even heard the Mjolnir regurgitate it in other threads.

Haha. No, I just want to make sure the shiny new toy syndrome isn't overlooked. Plus, I may have been looking for some specifics. But yea, as I understand it

the Mojo HD800 pairing by all accounts is very good. You could call me skeptical. I'm really looking for serious affirmation, as I'm considering buying them again. redface.gif

I can understand people not liking the signature, but that will boil down to preference rather than the Mjolnir making the HD800 more abrasive and grating. Obviously source will have a significant bearing as well.
