.

i think its from the hinge at the top near the headband....
Maybe the doors creak on the new Mercedes Benz as well

I dont think its internal....or near the driver itself...it I did I would have sent them back ASAP...I think it's just the swivel point near the headband

Are you implying these HD800 OEM'ed by Mercedes?

Geez, that's pretty harsh.

I'm a little confused by this talk of having one's HD800s sent off to be recabled though. Don't these cans have detachable cables like those of the HD6XX series?

Based on what I am reading in this thread, I am glad I followed my gut instinct and held off on these phones, *whew*! I seriously doubt these phones would have been for me.

Of course my comments are based strictly on what others are saying - I will need to get around to hearing the HD800s for my self one of these days, and passing final judgment then.

For those who are blown away by them and think they are the best headphones the world has ever known, Congrats to you! Have fun with your new toy.

x2. I will keep my money for the PS-1000 or maybe the Edition 8.

No expectations

I believe when Jude and Tyll first heard them, they had very little expectations. In some way they had negative ones...feeling it would just be another HD650 tweaked phone. So with that, they were blown away.

Now, we are in a completely different place having had the overwhelming impressions from both Jude and Tyll.

So I think our impressions are just going to be different than theirs. There is no way that it can be the same unless we were in their place.

Unless I'm badly confusing my threads, I was able to deduce that they are Klein and Hummel O300D. The "O300D" at the top of the chart was a giveaway, at least in our Google-empowered world.

I apologize for that post, but honestly, they just sound lifeless to me. They sound like they are missing so much in every area of the spectrum. I know 30 minutes isn't enough to evaluate them, but it is enough to get a feel for them. I need to spend lots of time with them and that is time I don't have now, since as it is I probably won't get to the hotel tonight until midnight.

The D5000 and K702 sound much more alike than the HD800 does to either. The HD800 is just in another ballpark, and it's one I'm not used to. It just doesn't sound right to me.
Please don't give up on them yet. I posted a very similar thread last night about my disappointment compared to my Denon D7000's. I am now starting to "get" these phones and changing my mind big time. I'm not sure if some kind of burn in has already happened, I think it's more a case of me coming around to their sound. I'm starting to think they really are pretty amazing. When I switch back to the Denons they sound small, and grainy. This is really interesting.

Very nice impressions.. somehow only the nice impressions stuck on me..

Seems like a lot of people are using various Denons as comparators. That the sound signature is very different with the HD800 is very good news to me.

For what it's worth I've just spent a small amount if time with four sets of HD800s, with five amps, SE and balanced, and the only thing I'll say is I wouldn't be quickly deciding if this cans are really for you based on a few early impressions. Some of the comments already made aren't a difference of opinion, they're simply incorrect.
