About gain setting and sound issue.

Hi. i have an ultra micro stack which i use with my denon AH-D5000 and my rs-1. until now i used the medium gain only in the amp, and today i decided to try the low gain with my denons asuuming that this is enough gain, just have to turn the volume nobe a little more to the right.
now..i noticed that with the low gain i get a tiny bit (almost unheardable)
less bass and the treble range is a little bit more extended. now my denons bass is a little more controlled and restrained, which is a good thing because it used to get a little overwhelming and uncontrolled.
but my question is..is it just a psycological effect,is it me...? or the gain setting has something to do with it? once i was told that the gain shouldn't matter, it's only effect how much i need to turn the volume knob. but now i think that it maybe does matter, at least with the denon issue.

thanks!

Joe has said that it really shouldn't make a difference, and I've never heard one, but I've also seen a lot of comments that there is a bit of difference between gain settings.

There probably is a tiny bit. Do what works for you.

Thanks for the answer. i guess i will use the low gain with my low impedance headphones(both rs-1 and ahd5000) like it should be.
