How are the Cardas HD650 connnectors like?

I just got the DIY connectors for HD650 by Cardas on ebay. I noticed that one side of the connector has an exposed side so that the wires can be soldered to them. However, there's no cap/covering to cover the exposed wires... should it be like this?

They are exposed like the black one in this picture. I was expecting some sort of plastic cap/covering.

Yep that's normal. Epoxy and/or heatshrink required to finish it off.

Thanks!

I recommend you fill it in with a epoxy or glue gun before the heatshrink. Otherwise, the heatshrink caves in, and the connector feels flimsy

I have just finished making the cable... took almost 4 hours!!!

Here's a pic:

Might take some close ups of the actual cable. Too bad I didn't have 3/8" red heatshrink for the R connector so its red/black.

Anyhow, I made the cable using Mogami W2893 minquad with flexo PET sleeve and terminated with a Canare F12 miniplug.

To finish off, I sealed the end connectors with hot glue and then heat shrink wrap.

Very nice! I like the red/black cables.
