Audio-Technica "Solid Bass" CKS50 and CKS70

Audio-Technica recently announced two canalphones, part of their new "Solid Bass" line. Aimed squarely at Sony's "Extra Bass" MDR-XB20 and XB40, these AT's sports the "sub chamber mechanism," which supposedly enhances deep bass output.

Another design element that is quite notable about this new line is the ability to mount the tips either deeply or shallowly on the nozzle, which may be an interesting solution in allowing people to choose between a secure fit and better comfort.

Both products will be released in Japan on June 19. The CKS50 will come in at around ¥5000 (≈$53), while the CKS70 will retail at just under ¥9000 (≈$95).

UPDATE 1: It seems that the street prices for the ATH-CKS50 and ATH-CKS70 will be around ¥3600 and ¥6300, respectively. That makes the ATs more expensive than their Sony counterparts. On the same site, MDR-XB20EX goes for ¥2700, while the MDR-XB40EX is ¥4500. Source: 【オーテク新製品】SOLID BASS「CKS50」&「CKS70」 | イヤホン専門店「e☆イヤホン」(e-earphone: Japanese online retailer blog)
