So you need some kind of proof that you have the w5000?

aaw, it was to good to be true
Expected this anyways. Buy an AD500 for $70, buy $100 drivers, and for $170 you have a $800 'phone

not really unless you can do the wood cup to make them close.

As I said, it sounds like W5000, but it's not the exact W5000. Wooden cup, cable, construction and pads are different.

Is this mod worth? To me, it is since I have a spare pair of drivers and I got AD500 for only $50. So it is just-for-fun mod for me.

For you, I would say don't put too much hope like it would be a little brother of the Raffinato.

Probably, I will lend this modded AD500 to another W5000 owner in my town to do the direct comparison.

I hope he would glad to do it.

Just out of curiosity, did you try the moded AD500 w/o the dynamat in the "open" configuration? Can you describe how you disassembled the AD500 to get the drivers?

Being open configuration made it sound bad no bass, harsh treble and lack of sound stage. After trying this, I think I should make them close by putting dynamat inside the grill to become a close.

To dissemble the phone, first you have to pull the pads off. Then you will see 4 screws, so no need to tell what to do. After taking the cup apart, you will see the driver retained with the driver housing. Removing the driver housing and now you can desolder the driver and replace it.

Maybe a bit old thread, but found out something.

By turning the pads you can get a better fit, the pads are not equal round. Normally the bottom is a bit thicker. I turned the pads 90 degrees, now the thicker part is behind my ear, and gives (even) better comfort

You just have to pull it off at around 45 degrees relative to the frame.

You can actually turn the pads around without taking them off. Cover the pad with your whole hand (if that makes sense ) and turn them carefully.

Look out for the black rubber flaps(?) that goes into the phones, they can slip out.

Well, comfort/better fit mods without changing the sound is always positive imo

This might be a stupid question but I was wondering if I were to replace the drivers in my AD700's, would they be much more difficult to drive? I know you don't need an amp at all for the AD700's but the only amp I have is an Astro Mixamp. I'm just curious if it would be necessary to use it after the mod.

is there anyway you can mod the ad-700 to get that purple ugliness off?  maybe spray paint the outside grill?  is it hard to do?  i'd definately get them over my hd-555 but that purple just turns me so far away.

I'm working on modding my AD-700's. I love them, just not the frickin purple grills. It's totally possible to spraypaint them to your liking, it just takes a little work. WayTooCrazy did an amazing job, and even put in a removable mic and cable, which is what I'm going to try after some research; http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/484176/dark-knight-ad700-gaming-mod-lots-of-pics
