Sunset Rubdown - Dragonslayer

Well, it's finally out (that is, if you pre-order from either JagJaguwar or Insound), and I can honestly say that it's worth the wait.

It isn't really similar to Shut Up I Am Dreaming or Random Spirit Lover, but it really is excellent; I've listened to it maybe 6 or 7 times since last night and I don't think there's a weak song in the album. Of course, I'm a big Sunset Rubdown fan so you'll have to decide for yourselves.

Wow, super creepy internets. I just shouted at you on last.fm this morning while I was looking to see what other people were saying about Dragonslayer, and then found your post here.

Anyway, I love it as well. I actually think it is somewhat similar to Random Spirit Lover (or, obviously moreso than it is to Shut Up), but it's truly excellent. I've really just been listening to the album over and over, but You Go On Ahead and Nightingale/December Song are the ones that have really gotten to me. Idiot Heart, Apollo/Anna Oh!, and Dragon's Lair are all really good too.

I can't wait to see them in a few weeks. It's so great to hear some new Spencer, since I've never really been able to click with Swan Lake in general (never clicked with Dan Bejar or Carey Mercer in a serious way).

Anyone else here listening?

most excellent album.

Definitely the best SR album. The other albums are great, but all have songs that aren't easy listens. This one just flows perfectly.

Also, I think Idiot Heart is the song of the year.

I still like Random Spirit Lover more, but the new one is great. Ok computer started another thread, and in response to what he said, I definitely don't think that this is Spencer Krug's best work to date. For me, that would be Apologies to the Queen Mary. That said, Dragonslayer is a great album.

Sorry about that one guys. I just looked over the first couple of pages in this section and missed it I guess. Anyways, this album is just awesome. After listening to it more, I can't really find any faults with it. While I loved apologies to queen marry too, I think the sunset rubdown stuff is better. Apologies is more lo-fi-ish, which may or may not be a bad thing. I just like sunset rubdown better from a stylistic standpoint vs. WP. It seems to me spencer has more freedom to do what he wants than in his other bands.

I'm topping this so more people can see it.

This is seriously the best album of the year people.
