where do you recommend getting a balanced 4pin XLR cable for HD650's?

not many places seem to offer this.

A DIYing member near you! They can easily reterminate your stock cable.

Also, if you want something from the likes of APS, ALO or whatever just inquire about the 4pin XLR. I am confident they will reply positively.

The latter option is more expensive so I opt for a DIYing member.

Yes, it is somewhat thick. I haven't used it as a headphone cable, but I did use a small amount when I needed a shielded length of internal-amplifier wiring.
I didn't think it was too much of a problem for a balanced home rig, but I'm thinking it over. I wish I had my hd650 and amp with me during the break so I can kind of visualize it.

Yeah I mean they are two 5mm wires iirc... I rather use something a lot thinner.
