Which model is better? The SuperOne or 1.3a? They are both the same price, and will be used for classical, classic rock, opera, and random other stuff.

NHT Classic 3 have very good imaging so it would be good for classical and accoustic music and all other kinds.

You have a sub right? The classic 3 or most good bookshelves will give you 80-90% of the music but

you need bass, a sub, to really get into it.

NHT is a solid company. You can't go wrong there.

However, I just bought these from HSU and am waiting on their arrival Friday. I think they might be pretty special. Like me. YAY! lol

I just got a pretty smokin' deal on the M-OO and S-20 powered system from ListenUp online. For nearfield/midfield listening they are pretty special. I'm using them with the computer straight out of the Brick USB Dac (with an NHT passive volume control) and they are pretty much blowing my mind.

I totally realize you didn't ask about these...if you're considering NHT I just thought I'd chime in with these.

Yeah the M-00 is a bargain at $400. You get great monitors and built in amplification. The matching sub is sweet too. $800 is pretty good for that combo. It is still a "musical" 32hz sub though. Just fyi. It will still sound unbelievable. I heard the previous generation of that setup and it was a stellar combo.

Regarding the M-00. Personally I think a (probably better) alternative would be to get a Classic Absolute Zero for $300 and an a small amp for $100-200, and you'd be further ahead. The Zeros are better on detail than the M-00. With the $300 left, you could get any number of nice subs.

I haven't heard the Absolute Zero so I can't intelligently comment on this, but one thing to consider is that you're still out some speaker cable for the combo you suggest. Sounds like I need to hear the Zeros because I would have said detail was a strong suit of the M-00. In my setup I have the M-00 about five feet apart and five feet from my ears. At listenable volumes I'm getting pinpoint imaging and almost as much detail extraction as my 'phones setup. I just wish my blasted computer monitor wasn't smack between them.

Thanks for the help. The two pairs I mentioned were on sale for <$150 at a local store, so everything you named is out of my price range (but will be kept in mind for next time ).

Either way, the seller got a little evasive when I asked him if there was anything wrong with them, and just said that he has never turned them on. When I requested he use the amp in is store, and I will buy all of them if they all work, he refused.
So...no NHT speakers, and my budget is crying even more, because I am pretty sure my next upgrade is going to be and NHT. But that is later, so I have time to research and whatnot.

Just fyi, the speaker company bookshelves are very decent speakers. If they go on sale, consider them for a great budget buy. I am using two of their center channel speakers as monitors to great success for gaming. They throw a neat little sound stage across my monitor. I can hear and see people as they cross my line of vision and even hear things to my side and behind me. Not the most detailed speakers ever but damn clean and clear for the $$. Must use a sub though. They only do 60hz at their lowest.

I actually just bought their TSB 5.25 inch bookshelves. No sub, but that will come when the money does (yay for the infamous college student budget).

Anyway, with their 30 day guarantee and they pay all shipping, I figured I was only out 5 or 6 hours of time plus burn in if I did not like them.

I've been using the super zeros driven by a parasound zamp for the past few years (with a pinnacle subsonic for the past 6 months) for nearfield monitors and can truly say that I love them.
