Another thing, how do you have yours positioned? On a desk or shelf? Have you 'cushioned' them with anything? I read that they would sound better with stands but I don't really have space for that.
Depends on the speaker. More efficient speaker will get louder with less watts.

Your Logitech's aren't 200W RMS. The amp inside is more like 10W maximum. And the same for the speakers, maximum power handling is probably 20W. I'd real RMS power is about 10W + 40W RMS and that's with lots of distortion and unable to drive anything but the supplied speakers.

Not that has anything to do with volume, or sound quality which the Logitechs lack.

??? I ask people if I can demo their stuff all the time before I purchase
I was talking more about the distances, I've just bought something unheard - to travel there to the of scotland, would cost couple of hundred pounds. Probably get lost on my way, and need to take up a donkey up a mountain. I'd buy it anyway. And then I'd need to carry it doing my back in. I only demo it when it's close, otherwise buy blind. Had to do that with headphones and canal headphones too.

900km in Africa is even more!

Alai,
Got you.

iriverdude,
So the Logitech isn't 200W RMS, although that is what they advertise?
False advertising. A proper 3 channel, 66W per channel RMS alone is more than £100. I'd like to see those Logitech's tested. THX spec means nothing for home gear, Lucas sold out the certification. If it had THX Ultra, that's another matter.

Well anyway. The speakers and amp that I was getting have already been sold... There's also a DM602 S3 available, but it's more than double the price... And Arcam Delta bookshelves but they're nearly double the price and don't seem to me to be as good as the DM601. Also I need to find another amp for sale.

Well thanks for the help getting me on my way towards bookshelfdom. I'll just need to watch the classifieds for something good.

iriverdude,
I don't imagine you want to sell your speakers and amp? :-) What do you think the shipping would cost for what, about 10kg?
No I won't sell them. The lot would be heavier than 10kg, maybe 20kg for the three things.

There's a pair of KEF Q15 for a similar price that look alright. Not sure about that driver within a driver business but anyway, I'll have a look around and keep hunting.

Thanks for the help guys.

/thread?

They're good speakers too, better midrange than the B&W's. And if they're for the computer/near field the concentric driver will help with soundstaging.

Ok, maybe I'll look into it. I'm more worried about the highs but I'm sure I'll be pleased.

What kind of amp? Also somewhere around 50W? They're for use mostly in a small room, maybe 4x3m, so that's good.

the z2300 may produce 200 watts, but into what load, and with what distortion? Full bandwidth, or a 1khz tone?

Though, even if it was 10/10/20 at 0.1% it would be more than enough for nearfield listening.

Most any two channel receiver (or older multichannel HT receiver) will power speakers adequately in a small room.

If buying new i'd suggest the yamaha rx-397, which is 50x2 and has a variable loudness control, as well as a mode to bypass the preamp.

Well I've found a pretty good deal on a set of B&W DM602 speakers. It's more than I want to spend but it seems like it could be worth it. If I went for these the guy is also selling his NAD L40 amp, which is actually also a CD player and tuner, things I don't need, but that doesn't matter too much. I'm beginning to worry about shipping all this stuff though...

Will that make for a good combination? I'm worried though, with the bigger DM 602 speakers, that it will be too much for a pretty small room...

Okay, my apologies for dragging this out. I've got a decision to make between a few speakers.

Speakers:
B&W DM602.5 S3 - R2500
B&W DM602 S3 - probably around R2500
Monitor Audio Bronze BR-2 - R1800
Arcam Delta bookshelves (not sure of exact model but will find out) - R2750

Amps:
Arcam Alpha 5 integrated - R1500
NAD L40 - probably around R2000

Which combination should I go for?
