Newb Speaker Question

This is with regards to these speakers:
Energy - C-100 - Bookshelf Speakers-Audio Advisor

Most notably this picture
http://www.audioadvisor.com/images/ENC_T_REAR.jpg

There are two sets of binding posts. Why? Do I need an external crossover? If so how much would that cost? If not, do I run two sets of speakerwire to each speaker, from the same amp?

I have (or at least am pursuing with intent to buy) a two channel adcom amp. It only has one set of posts for left and another for right. How would I hook that up to these speakers?

Thanks for not yelling at my probably stupid question ,
nkk

PS If you want to suggest other good speakers in that pricerange (top $130 shipped), then please do.

Those are for biwiring and possibly biamping.

Biwiring is running two sets of wires off each amp out - one set to the tweeters and one set to the woofers. It is claimed that there is a sonic benefit to this. That's not a belief I have, but I don't blame the manufacturers for adding a second set of posts to gain sales from those who biwire.

Biamping is different. That's where you use two separate amps - one for the tweeters and one for the woofers. That actually does make a difference, but you have to buy another amp.

My guess is that these speakers are capable of biamplification. It looks like there are jumper bars connecting the two sets of posts.

If you wanted to biamp, you'd remove the jumpers and connect the amps. Or you can just leave the jumper bars in place and run them off a regular two channel amp. What you have in mind will work fine.

I haven't heard these speakers, so I won't comment. However, you might also want to look at what turns up used near you on Audiogon and Craigslist. There are some terrific vintage speakers out there and you might find a bargain.

hard to get something for 130 shipped since shipping will prob be 30-50 due to size and weight

try to find a pair of mission bookshelves. better than the energy. after klipsch bought energy, the brand went downhill except for the RC lineup

I know, but I am taking them to college, and I have learned to work under the mentality that if something goes to college, you should consider it lost until the end of the year, and then consider the fact that no one stole or damaged it lucky. Although I guess my one bad experience was good, as my iPod being stolen led me here.

Anyway, a little over is fine, and the shipped part is because there are actual monetary reasons behind 130, too.

Has anyone heard of The Speaker Company? I read that they are god bang/buck, but I have no idea whose scale was being used (audiophile or not). I read it here, but whenever someone says a compliment that adds "for the price", I wonder if they are just being nice about saying it is bad overall. but so cheap that it could not have been expected to be good.
Either way, they have a great return policy, so I am going to try them first (they pay for shipping both ways if you do not like it). I lose nothing except some time if they are not worth it.

Thanks,
Nkk
