Power Mac advice needed

I'm moving from a PC with a really nice sound card (which connects to my home stereo with digital cable) to a Power Mac G5.

Are there any good sound cards for the Mac or should I use optical out and get a Dac to insert between the computer and home stereo?

That sounds like your home stereo has a DAC on board - does it? If it accepts optical in, then you can just run an optical cable from your Mac (the G5 models have optical out, IIRC) to your stereo. If you've been happy with your stereo, keep using it.

No, there is no DAC on board.

Here's my setup ....
PC -> Prodigy HD sound card -> Meridian processor (no DAC) -> Meridian Speakers

Ayre CD -> Cary 300SEI -> various headphones
