Portable amp for DT770 250 ohm 2005 edition and AKG K271's

Well, I have the Beyer DT770's consumer 2005 edition (250 ohm), and the AKG K271's on their way to my house. I am also going to be ordering the Compass at the end of the week for home (and maybe work) use. Before anybody says something about "you're spending a lot of money just getting into this", yeah thanks I know. That's what I have a gf for Besides, if I don't like equip, theres the FS/FT forum that one of you could then buy my lightly used goods :P

So, I'm looking for a portable amp (something that can be used if the compass doesn't work out for work). The amps I'm looking at are KICAS/Caliente, P-51 Mustang, Minibox-E+, Cantate.2, or something else. Price range is the $200-$400 range, but lower is better (although not at the sacrifice of quality).

Anybody have any recommendations?

That's kind of a tough combination of headphones to use with the same portable amp. I've owned the K271 and currently own the DT770 Edition 2005, and of the two, the beyer is clearly harder to drive. You could probably get by quite well with almost any quality portable amp with the K271, but you'll need a beast for the Edition 2005. I doubt I'll ever buy another portable amp, but if I had to put my money on something I thought would work out nicely, then I'd get an AE-2 based on probable similarities with the Gilmore Lite, which drives these headphones very nicely.

Yeah, the DT770's are going to be the harder to drive. The K271's will most likely be my portable cans, but I'd like the ability to take either set of cans and not have issues with the portable amp.

Decide which you like better between the AKG and Beyer, sell off the loser, then get a one-box Gamma1/Mini3 and some IEMs.

Not a fan of IEMs unless I'm running or something, but I don't want to take hifi expensive gear while being active. So, IEMs for hifi are out.

Damn, that's tough. The default recommendation for easy-to-drive full-sized closed stuff would probably be Audio Technica stuff.
How about this: get the Gamma/Mini3 and an ES7 or ESW9 or A900, then see if it sounds better or worse than the AKG or Beyer. Sell something afterwards.

Is D10 still out of stock? =/

I was actually looking at the ESW9/ESW10 for portables. I picked up a P 51 Mustang (well paid for it today so should have it in a few days) for portable amp duties for now. I don't know if I'll like it or not, but it should work quite well.

I don't know about the D10, but that was another serious contender, I just happened to find a used P 51 for a great price. If I don't like it I may sell/trade it and get the D10.

I still think I'm going to order the Compass though :P
