But HP-1000 style is best ... why not machine a full replacement for the rod-holder!
That was what my original design was based on, see earlier in this thread. The problem with that, of course, is that you need a wrench to adjust it. With these small socket head cap screws, you can use your fingers, at least most people can. Some may not have the finger strength to get them secure, but I have no problem. A different screw could be used, of course, more finger friendly.

For the HP-1000 style, well, see my post in the current page of the "post your Grado mods" thread. It hasn't attracted a response as of yet. I may take apart a headband this weekend, even though I hoped to avoid it.

I thought of using the same stock I used for this clamp, just machining a flat on one end to connect the steel band to, or possibly cutting a slot in from the end for it to fit into, with a set screw to hold it in place. Then the hole for the rod could be drilled into the other end, with it's own set screw.

The problem with that, of course, is that the rod won't be free to swivel. Maybe it still does on the HP-1000, I don't know. Who has a pair of HP-1000 that we can ask?

Looks like time to take apart a headband and whip up another prototype. Maybe if I get a pair or three made for myself, someone else will show interest.

Hmm, don't see the relevant post (searched for your username in http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f4/pos...4/index44.html )

Anyway, when the screw is fully tightened on the HP2, the cups can't move up/down but can freely rotate (don't quite know why this is so). The thumbscrew makes direct contact with the rods. Quick and dirty pictures that may explain how the HP2 lock works...

Thank you for the outstanding pics, some1x. Very helpful. The block is all one piece, I assume.

My post in the Grado mods thread is toward the bottom of p. 33. After SpudHarris' picture was shown and discussed.

I believe I'll make a prototype this weekend or next week and see what's what.

Sorry, you may not be using same number of posts/page, here it is.

You're welcome. The HP2 block is one piece, and the headband is held tight by a set screw (or maybe 2). The headband is cylindrical instead of flat though.

Looking forward to the results... I may need a set if/when I order the HF2 .

edit: found the post thanks
