Tinnitus? Give this a try

I've suffered from tinnitus on and off for about 5 years -- first brought on from an overindulgence in loud headphoning. It took me about 2 1/2 without headphones to get to the point where I can use them again without much trouble. But if I'm occasionally exposed to really loud sound (like getting blasted out at a movie theater cranked to the gills) it flairs up again, sometimes for a couple weeks. I found this program called Tinnitus Tamer about two years ago. I was having a bad flair up and I thought I'd give it a try. There is a free demo version of it on the web. I think the demo lasts a couple days or weeks. You have to go through a variety of presets to find one comfortable for you. Instructions come with it. What I did (sneaky me) was find the best setting and then I used an audio ripper (that records your computer's system) to rip a copy of the preset as an aiff file, so I could keep it around for flair ups. I really believe this program helps alot. I'm sure of it. The first time I used it during that bad flair up, it got rid of my tinnitus after a couple days and I didn't have a flair up for almost a year. I'm having another one this week and I'm using my Tinnitus Tamer sound file and it really again seems to be working. It immediately cured one flair up tonight (as I was playing with my new iTouch). So give this a try guys. This is from my own personal experience with this software over two years and I know how terrible tinnitus is - so I want to help others. If you go to a Nine Inch Nails concert and get "the ring" I definitely recommend this as a way of speeding up recovery. Here's the main link, but you can find the trial download at a couple places. Cheers. http://www.vavsoft.com/Tinnitus_Tamer.htm

link's broken (needs an "l" at the end). if i can find a way to get this running then i'll definitely give it a show, this sounds like something I could really use.

Good Stuff. MP3 players should have one of these built-in , or maybe sell a portable unit with this built-in.

Good thought. Maybe mp3 player should have a "brain relaxing" loop built in. The theory going in tinnitus is that there's no physical damage, but the brain gets cut in some sort of loop or overstimulation or something. It works by retraining the brain about the frequency of the ringing. I remember reading about this kind of approach being part of a very expensive medical treatment a few years back. Now, through the miracle of a programer, now we all can use it. Here's another link: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multime...tusTamer.shtml

I have a Mac, so it works on both kinds of OS.

Try this, always works for me, and no need for any technology whatsoever. Put the palms of your hands over your ears, with your fingers pointing behind you and wrapped around the base of your skull. Next, overlap one of your middle fingers on the other, doesn't matter which. Now use your index fingers to drum on your overlapped middle fingers, rinse and repeat until ringing disappears.

Forgot my ER-20s when I went to a show recently, had to use this technique for three days Sounds weird, I know, but give it a try and you might be surprised.

ha maybe it was just the duration...maybe you could have tapped your knee with your elbow with the same result

If it helps pay for it

I think you misunderstood, you get instant relief. The ringing only bothered me at night, when it was dead quiet. After a few minutes of drumming, you get complete silence. It doesn't solve the cause of the tinnitus, it just relieves the symptoms temporarily.

i find when i get it, i can get rid of it by rotating my jaw, for me it feels more about muscle tension in the ear area. a little wiggle of my jaw and it just fads away

I'm just going to bump this thread because now I'm sure this program works. I was playing with my new HD-25s a little too much and too loudly and my tinnitus starting flairing up pretty good. I used Tinnitus Tamer three or four times and its gone. I'm also finding the HD25s are EXCELLENT to do this treatment with. The website said to use a closed phone and they were right. Much more effective. Again, I have nothing to do with this program, but I think it's really on the way to being a cure.
