Why do my new AKG K81 DJs have the wrong 3.5mm plug

I just got a new pair of AKG K81 DJs in the mail. I ordered from eBay, and there were a few shipping issues, so I was already frustrated with the situation. I bought these to replace a pair I'd broken about 6 months ago. They actually just need to be re-cabled, but I've simply been too lazy to take care of it, and when the cord on my IEMs split, I just bought another pair.

However, when they came in the mail, I immediately noticed something was awry. The cord didn't feel right, and when I unwrapped it, I found that it has a totally different and incorrect 3.5mm plug. I didn't catch it in the picture, but the plug is branded AKG, but it is not the same heavy, quality 3.5mm on my previous pair; also, it missing the threads to screw in the 1/4" adapter. What does this mean? Factory error? Knock-offs? It's hard to do a direct 1-to-1 comparison since I can only listen to one ear on my old pair, so it's really hard for me to say if they sound right. They don't sound like ****ty cheap drivers, but it's tough for me to judge, really, since my most recent standard comparison is to a pair of crap $8 Magnavox headphones from CVS.

Edit: My title was stupid and I fixed it thanks to IPodPJ, thanks Didn't realize you could do that here

You don't need a mod to fix it. You can fix it yourself. Hit the Edit button, and then when the screen comes up, hit the Edit button a second time and then it will let you change the title.

Either the factory changed the stock plug used or the pair you got had a broken plug/cord(very likely, I had 2 pairs already on which the plug broke down on both).

Recabling these is a easy and fun procedure though, so I wouldn't worry too much as long as the drivers are okay. You can check if anyone has tampered with them pretty easily by disassembling the driver housings and checking the solder joints.

Thats how they come from the factory now, AKG redid the plugs to fit 1G iPhones. My friend who recently bought his K81djs has the new plug, my pair has the old.
