I use the Blue Circle SBH as a preamp. I got it with a low-hi gain switch because I had so much trouble with the high gain of the SP MPX3. The SBH is very smooth, detailed and balanced and takes up hardly any room.
I use my Benchmark DAC1pre directly hooked up to two Tube Technology Genesis mono blocks. It sounds better than the Prophet pre amp that costs $4000.
The only draw back is that the DAC1pre only has one analog input. The new DAC1HDR has a remote control as well (still only one analog in) :-(
By the way, I also like the two headphones outs.
